    Item I give unto my Well beloved wife, Lucy Humphrie, 100 acres of Land
    including the plantation I now live on With all my stock and movables within
    doors and without, to her during her natural life and then the Land and
    plantation to my youngest son, Samuel Humphrey to him and his heirs forever
    and the Stock and movables that shall be at the time, to be equally divided
    amongst my six youngest children.

    And I hereby make and ordain my well beloved wife, Lucy Humphrie and my son,
    William Humphrie, executors of this my Last will and Testament. In witness

  • Biography*: Later he went by the name John Adam Swicegood.

    Around 1780, Sophia and Henry Clement, Margaret and Godfrey Ratz, Johann Adom Schweissguth and Phillip Schweissguth moved to Rowan County, NC. They settled near Tyro Wagon Shops. The four familes recived many land grants.

    Adam first worked at the Tyro Wagon Works repairing wagons. The Thompson family was the owner of the shop.

    At Adam's death he owned 1,050 acres.
    Some of his land grants were -
    #1134, 25 Oct., 1786 for 200 acres;
    #1798, 18 May, 1789 for 320 acres;
    #1925, 18 May, 1789 for 500 acres;
    #2353, 17 Jul., 1794 for 40 acres.
    #1798 was assigned to both Adam Swicegood and his brother-in-law, Godfrey Ratz.

    Sandy Creek Cemetery is the original plot for the Swicegood Meeting House congregation. Adam and Catherine Swicegood donated land in 1790 for the original church and cemetery. The Church was moved into Tyro and is now called St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

    Obituary:
    Grady Lee Leonard, age 95, of Lexington passed away Saturday (March 5, 2011). Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday (March 8, 2011) at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sheila Bishop and Rev. Benny Clodfelter officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday and at other times at the home.

    Grady was born in Davidson County, December 30, 1915 to Harper Alexander Leonard and Ida Lou Waitman Leonard. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where for many years he was a choir member, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was a retired employee of Period Furniture House where he worked for over thirty years. He was on the board of Piedmont Telephone for 43 years and had served as President. He was President of the Carolina-Virginia Telephone Membership Association from 1978-1980. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in World War II. Locally, he was a member of American Legion Post 162, where he served as finance officer for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Carroll Lee Leonard; sisters, Bertha Koonts, Effie Foard, Bulah Everhart, Pauline Leonard and Veigh Hobbs and brothers, Curtis Leonard and Jones Leonard.

    Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife of 72 years, Naomi Swicegood Leonard; two sons, Gary Leonard and wife Pat of Oriental, NC and Ronald Leonard and wife Lynne of Lexington; daughter-in-law; Becky C. Leonard of Lexington; grandchildren, Greg Leonard and wife Anna of Oriental, Korie Woolgar and husband Andy of Winston Salem, Eric Leonard and wife Robin of Raleigh, Sarah Kittner and husband Mike of Winston Salem and Jacob Leonard and girlfriend Sheena Cooper of Lexington.

    A funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 25 at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville, NC, by the Revs. Dr. Keith Carroll and Wilson Harris A private burial will take place at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30pm Saturday prior to the service.

    Mrs. Mock was born September 26, 1937 in Davidson County to Cleano Herman Koonts and Bertha Marvin Leonard Koonts. She was employed by the Lexington City School System for 18 years as a substitute teacher and cashier and was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. Her sister, Rachel Koonts Sink, preceded her in death. She enjoyed taking care of her family and loved them deeply.

    She is survived by her husband, Henry Franklin Mock, Jr. of the home; her son, Charles Mock (Kay) of Lexington; her daughters, Lisa Allen (Wayne) of Newton, and Linda Dellinger (Nate) of Lexington; her grandchildren, Erica Dickens (Clark), Dillon Mock (Clara), Luke Dellinger (Sarah), Elizabeth Wagner (Bailey), and Lydia Mock; and her expected first great-grandchild, Avie Jane Dellinger.
