  Morganton, N.C. - Luther Gideon "L.G." Sink, Jr., 85, of Bethel Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at College Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center following several months of declining health.
  
  The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, where he was an active member, by the Rev. Michael F. Riley. Burial will be today at 3 p.m. in Lexington City Cemetery.
  
  The family will receive friends following the service.
  
  Mr. Sink was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Lexington to Luther Gideon Sink Sr. and Sallie Cross Sink.
  
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stokes Sink and Clarence Sink, and a grandson, Luke Sink.
  
  He was a graduate of N.C. State University and was employed as farm manager at Broughton Hospital under the N.C. Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. At his church, he was a longtime Sunday school teacher and former member of the church council.
  
  Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Doris Swing Sink of the home; a son, Ronnie Sink and wife, Kathy, of Lexington, Ky; a daughter, Becky Schlein and her husband, Chuck, of Morganton; a brother, Jack Sink and wife, Betty, of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Sheppard of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Sink of Lexington, Ky.

  Mr. Sink was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Davidson County, to Luther Gideon Sink, SR. and Sallie Cross Sink.
  
  He was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan during the Korean Conflict and retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lexington.
  
  On June 12, 1954, he married Betty Jean Flake Sink.
  
  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jean Flake Sink, of the home; daughters, Jackie Lynn Sink and Susan Sink Bryan and her husband, Billy, all of Lexington; twin granddaughters, Brooke Bryan and Jordan Bryan, both of Lexington; brother-in-law, Jesse Thomas Flake of Cullowhee; sisters-in-law Doris Swing Sink of Morganton and Dorothy Thurman Seago of Hillsborough; several nieces and nephews; and a special kitty, Roxy.
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Luther "L.G." Gideon Sink, JR., Stokes Gilmer Sink and his wife, Ruby Koontz Sink, and Clarence Hurbert Sink and his wife, Katherine Loreta Shoaf Sink.
  
  The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Howell III and the Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating.
