  John H. Powers Claimed By Death – Funeral for Prominent Farmer and Citizen from Home in B.T. Section This Afternoon
  
  John Hector Powers, 83, prominent farmer, businessman and citizen, died Tuesday at 2:10 p.m. at his home on Lumberton, R. 1, Barker-Ten Mile section, following an illness of 4 years with a heart ailment, and pneumonia, which he contracted Sunday.
  
  Funeral services are being held this afternoon (Wednesday) at 4 o'clock from the home by Rev. O.L. Hathaway, pastor of Barker's Methodist church, of which he was a member, and of which he had been a steward for 50 years. Interment will be in the family plot near the home.
  
  Mr. Powers was married three times, the first time to Miss Virginia Smith of the Smith's section. To this union 7 children were born, 3 of whom survive: C.V. Powers and Mrs. Purvis Powers of Lumberton, R. 1, and Miss Mary Powers of Lumberton. His second marriage was to Miss Sallie Elizabeth Townsend of the Barker-Ten Mile section. Ten children were born to this union, 8 of whom survive: Boyd Powers of Lumberton, C.A. Powers and Mrs. W.D. Wellington of Lumberton, R. 2, Mrs. Ellis Branch of Allenton, Mrs. Vashti Humphrey of Red Springs, Mrs. Gladys Burns of Goldsboro, Mrs. Shelton M'White of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. A.L. Shaver or Austin, Texas. His last marriage was to Mrs. Ida Holland or St. Pauls, who survives, also a stepdaughter, Mrs. Marguerite Allbright of Richmond, Va. He is survived by 43 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
  
  Mr. Powers, a son of the late Henry and Dorothy Powers, was born and reared at the place where he died. He was well-known and took an active interest in the affairs of his community until his health failed. He was a member of the school board of the B.T. high school.

  Funeral of Mrs. Mabel Hart.
  The remains of Mrs. Mabel Hart, who died at her home in Tampa, Fla., Sunday, arrived here on yesterday morning's train. Mr. Jno. H. Powers, father of the deceased, who left Saturday for Tampa in response to a telegram stating the serious illness of his daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Nash Powers, of Tampa, Fla., brother and sister-in-law, accompanied the remains. Mr. Hart, husband of the deceased, is sick of pneumonia and was not able to come with the corpse.
  The funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of Mr. Powers, about five miles north of Lumberton, by Revs. E. M. Hoyle, of this place, and W. A. Jenkins, of Barkers. The remains were interred in the family burying grounds at Powersville. The deceased was placed by the side of a brother, Mr. Jno. Henry Powers Jr., who was buried just two weeks ago.
  Among those who attended the funeral from town were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Humphrey, Messrs. J. T. Barker, J. P. Townsend, J. Abner Barker and Miss Bertha Barker.
