  • Biography*: They lived in the Hickory Grove Community of Bladen County, NC for years. After her mother died (1869), they moved back to her father's home to care for him. After her father died (1880), she had the plantation and named it after her husband. So the farm became known as the Sessoms Farm and the cemetery on the property was known as Sessoms Cemetery. This was part of the original Smith property where the Sessoms Cemetery is located.

    The Sessoms Family Cemetery is located on Wagon Loop Road off Highway 41 South in Lumberton, Robeson County, NC.

    Born in Fork, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Harrelson Carmichael.

    She is survived by one son, Charles E. Smith of Wilmington; three sisters, Mrs. Mallie Prince and Mrs. Pollie Spivey, both of Tabor City, and Mrs. Fleetie Atkinson of Cherry Grove Beach, S.C., and two granddaughters, Miss Susan C. Smith and Miss Connie Smith, both of Wilmington.

    Mrs. Smith was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, A.A.R.P., Sorosis, Eastwood Club and American Legion Auxilliary.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday from the Chapel of Ward-Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Roger E. Horne officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

    Active pallbearers will be Wallace W. Bussard, James C. Cook Sr., Joe E. Dixon, Howard E. Edgerton, William Parrish and Dr. Vance J. Moore Jr.

    Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
