  Norfolk - Norman D. DeVane passed away peacefully at Embracing Hospice in Snellville, GA on July 9, 2014 comforted by his family.
  
  He was born February 5, 1919 in Beaufort, NC son of the late William DeVane and the late Mamie DeVane. His early years were spent in coastal North Carolina with his siblings Neal, Alden, and Margaret, who have all preceded him in death. From the early 1940's until 2001 he was a resident of Norfolk VA where he met and married Lois Daniel DeVane who passed away in 2005.
  
  After serving in the Army during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge, he returned to Norfolk where he was a well-known gemologist and watchmaker until his retirement in 1985. Mr. DeVane was active in the Norfolk community as a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church and as a member of Elizabeth Lodge 34 AF&AM. With his many friends, nieces and nephews, he could often be found enjoying his love of the water, fishing and crabbing. In 2001, he and his late wife Lois relocated to Loganville GA to live closer to his daughter.
  
  He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne DeVane Ruff and son in law, Mike Ruff of Grayson GA and his grandson Patrick Ruff of Atlanta GA and his many beloved nieces, nephews, sisters in law and brothers in law.
  
  A funeral service will be held Monday, July, 14, 2014, 11:00 am at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to a charity of one's choice . Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

She is also survived by a grandchild, Patrick Ruff of Grayson, GA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
