CONOVER - Bobby Grey Medlin, 75, of Fourth St., SW, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his residence. Born March 13, 1929, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Jesse Garland Medlin and the late Blanche Benfield Medlin.
He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and local 71 Teamster Union through Johnson Motor Lines. He was awarded the Honorary Safe Driving Award for over six million miles without an accident. His "CB" Handle was "Carolina Pin Ball."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Medlin.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Carpenter Medlin of the home; four sons, Mike Medlin and Rita Schowengerdt of the home, Scott Medlin and wife, Pam, of Catawba, Tony Medlin and wife, Amy, of Newton and Lynn Medlin and wife, Jamie, of Hildebran; two brothers, J. C. Medlin and H. E. "Gene" Medlin of Claremont; a brother-in-law, Duane Carpenter of Conover; five grandchildren, Carrie Medlin Brown, Cindy Medlin Queen, Bobby Medlin, Justin Medlin and Alisha Medlin; two stepgrandchildren, Joshua and Matthew McArthur; and two great-grandchildren, Christina Scott Queen and Jada Elizabeth Brown.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont with Dr. Charles Dickson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont. Pallbearers will be Phillip Medlin, Todd Medlin, Bryan Brown, Bobby Medlin, Justin Medlin, Derran Medlin, Jody Carpenter, Matthew McArthur, Joshua McArthur and Brad Queen. Honorary pallbearers will be Cobie and Cody Carpenter and Paul Medlin. The family will receive friends tonight, June 15, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton.

Biography*: Freida Joan Carpenter Medlin, 81, of Conover, was a daughter of the late William Harold Carpenter and the late Catherine Huffman Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Grey Medlin; a son, Michael Medlin; daughter, Cynthia Medlin; a brother, Bill Carpenter; and a sister, Miriam Little.
Joan worked at Pappy's Kitchen for many years. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Grey Medlin; a son, Michael Medlin; daughter, Cynthia Medlin; a brother, Bill Carpenter; and a sister, Miriam Little.
Interment in St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Claremont.
