    Note by Jason Bordeaux: Joel M. Johnson and Ellen Ann Bordeaux were the children of Joshua Johnson and Nancy Cain. Their mother Nancy had died when they were very young and the only mother they knew was Jane Edge, Joshua's second wife, who is the one
    referred to as mother in the document. Joel lived in Turnbull Township at the time near Ammon. Also at this time, Ellen lived in White Oak Township near the Tarheel bridge. Ellen was the wife of Marshall William Bordeaux who had died in 1889.

         I received your letter yesterday and are glad to hear from you. We are all well as common. Father and mother are feeble. Mother has the cold and cough very bad. She thinks she can't stand it, but I know she can. I brought them here last Saturday was a week ago. I have been trying to move their things but I can't figure out what to do with them. Ellen, I tell you, we have had a hard time, but I hope by the grace of god, we will be able to get through with it. Ellen, pray
    for us that we may do our duty. Ellen, I would be glad to see you all, but I don't know when I can go to see you, but you must come see us all as soon as you can.

    FAYETTEVILLE - Harry A. Cain, of 110 Pompton Drive, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was born May 29, 1929, in Bladen County to the late Julius and Bernice Melvin Cain. Mr. Cain was a graduate of White Oak School, class of 1947. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Cain retired in 1984 from the U.S. Army Civil Service at Fort Bragg after 33 years of service. After retirement, he ran his own small business and spent his free time involved with his family, church and fishing. Mr. Cain was a member of Creasy Proctor Lodge No. 679 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Fayetteville. Mr. Cain was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Fayetteville, where he was ordained as a deacon and sang in the choir. For 51 years, he gladly served in numerous other capacities at Grace, a true pillar of the congregation. His was a life diligently spent in devotion to Christ, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Iskey Hall Cain of the home; his children, Andy Cain and his wife, Sissy, of Fayetteville and Larry Cain and his wife, Tracy, of Charlotte. Also surviving are his much loved grandchildren, Dylan and Brandy Cain of Fayetteville, Jeffrey Gower of Clayton and Marissa and Jillian Cain of Charlotte; sisters, Pat Coble and her husband, David, of Whiteville and Jean Townsend and her husband, John, of Wallace; a brother, Gilbert Cain of Ammon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Christine Turner and Ann Smith; and also a brother, Arthur Cain. The family wishes to express our extreme gratitude to all the friends and family who have provided their overwhelming support and love during this time of grief and sorrow. We love you dearly and are honored to have you in our lives. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, in Grace Baptist Church, 3901 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, followed by a burial in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 tonight, Nov. 5, 2008, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3901 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

    FAYETTEVILLE - Iskey Hall Cain, of 110 Pompton Drive, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009, in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was born June 15, 1933, in Sampson County, to the late Harvey Pritchard and Mary Jane Naylor Hall. Mrs. Cain was a graduate of Roseboro High School, Class of 1951. She was employed by First Citizens Bank in Fayetteville and Rhudy's Inc., where she retired as a bookkeeper. Mrs. Cain was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Fayetteville where she lovingly served in many capacities for 52 years. Iskey is survived by her children, Andy Cain and his wife, Sissy, of Fayetteville, and Larry Cain and his wife, Tracy, of Charlotte. Also surviving are her much beloved grandchildren, Dylan and Brandy Cain of Fayetteville, Jeffrey Gower of Clayton, and Marissa and Jillian Cain of Charlotte; sisters Louise Horne of Fayetteville and Mary "Pete" Faircloth of Autryville; brothers, James Hall of Fayetteville and Allen Hall of Wake Forest; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Harry; sisters, Marie Faircloth, Wilma Faircloth and Edna Hall; and brother, Walter "Tug" Hall. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy. Our thanks and eternal gratitude also go out to the doctors and nurses in the Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit at UNC Hospitals who treated our mother with the utmost care and dignity during her sudden but brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in Grace Baptist Church, 3901 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, followed by burial in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.     Jacqueline "Jackie" Thompkins
    Fayetteville—Jacqueline "Jackie" Thompkins, 81, of Fayetteville went to be with her LORD and Savior April 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her mother Sally and her father Harvey Cain, as well as her sister Shirley Cain. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Trent Thompkins and wife Teresa, and Myron Thompkins; she also leaves behind her Grandchildren Jessica Thompkins and Steven Thompkins, and wife Sydney.
    Jackie was a highly valued and faithful employee for Holt-Williamson Manufacturing & United Tool for many years. She also loved K&W Cafeteria and her breakfast gang. She was a faithful Christian, and has finally found her home in Heaven.
    The service for Jackie will be Friday, April 24, 2020 at 1 PM at Windsor United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ammon, NC. There will be a visitation held Thursday, April 23, 2020 from 6-8 PM at Reeves Funeral Home, Hope Mills, NC.

    DURHAM: Ronald Curtis Cain, 83, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Duke University Hospital. Born in Bladen County, Mr. Cain was the son of the late Ferdinand Cain and Margarita Shaw Cain.
    Mr. Cain graduated from NC State University and was a member of the ROTC program. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.
    Mr. Cain is survived by his wife, Patricia Cain; sons, Jim Cain, Greg Cain and wife Dessi; step-daughter, Tammy Fowler and husband Rip; step-son, Edwin Scott West; and grandchildren, Jared Fowler, Brittany Fowler, Daniel Cain, Rachel Cain, and Ethan Cain.
