  LEXINGTON - The funeral for Mr. Joseph Vestal Moffit Jr. will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Lexington, conducted by Dr. Hurley Thomas III.
  He was born July 23, 1908, and graduated from Lexington Senior High School, and the Virginia Military Institute in 1930. He was past president of Peerless, Inc; president of Sealy of the Carolinas, and member of the Board of Directors of Sealy, Inc., Chicago, Ill; president of Wennonah Cotton Mills; former Chairman of the Board for the local First Union National Bank; member of the Board of Directors of First Union National Bank in Charlotte; former member of Board of Directors of Perpetual Savings and Loan and of Industrial Federal Savings and Loan; former member of the Board of Directors of Lexington Furniture Industries; former president of Wennonah Realty Company, Inc; former member of the Board of Directors of Lexington Memorial Hospital; retired Full Colonel from the United States Army, having served in England during World War II; was a former member of the Board of Trustee's of Pheiffer College; voted former 'Man of the Year' in Lexington; and was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington.
  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Camilla Powell Moffitt, and a daughter, Mary Hill Moffitt Linder of Lexington.
  He is survived by his second wife, Elizabeth Barber Moffitt of the home; two sisters, Mary Louise Moffitt Leonard of Lexington, and Elizabeth Moffitt Goodson of Knoxville, Tenn; three grandchildren, Cathy Campbell VonStorch of Charlottesville, Va., Elizabeth Campbell Walker of New York City, N.Y., Anne Campbell Brooks of Atlanta, Ga; and three stepchildren, Elizabeth Sickles McCann of Charlotte, Arthur DeLoss Sickles of Raleigh, and Richard Winfield Sickles of Winston-Salem.
  The family will receive friends at Piedmont Funeral Home from 7:30-9 p.m. Tuesday.
