• Biography*: P. W. Michael, 83 years old and a resident of Valley county for 20 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Manson H. Bailey, on Second avenue south, early Sunday morning. The immediate cause of Mr. Michael’s death was pneumonia, although he had been in poor health recently.
  Funeral services were held in the First Methodist church at 2 Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Will LeDrew Bennett officiating. Pallbearers were O. C. Johnson, J. E. Phillips, A. N. Parker, H. W. Magruder, J. O. Weaver and John Rice.
  Two of Mr. Michael’s daughters, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. A. F. Bittle, live in Glasgow. A third, Mrs. R. L. Starnes of Highwood, arrived here Sunday morning about a half hour after his death.
  Phillip W. Michael was born in Lexington, North Carolina, April 29, 1850. He made his home in that state and in the same community for 63 years. He operated a farm there for many years. When a young man he was also a schoolteacher. He was also postmaster for some time.
  Mr. Michel left North Carolina in 1913, coming to Glasgow. He filed on a homestead six miles southwest of town which he continued to farm for some time until his advanced age kept him from working. Since then he had made his home in Glasgow.
  He was an active member of the Methodist church and attended services here as long as he was able to be about.
  There is one brother surviving, John P. Michael of Lexington. Children are Miss Minnie Michael of Hickory, North Carolina; Mrs. C. W. Warlick, Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina; J. F. Michael, Springfield, Missouri; Mrs. Starnes, Mrs. M. F. Carpenter of Maiden, North Carolina; Mrs. Bittle and Mrs. Bailey. There are also 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

  Barbara Long Michael, who passed away at her home in Glasgow, Mont., Tuesday, Nov. 13, following an illness of a few weeks, was buried Friday in Highland cemetery at Glasgow, following funeral services at home.
  
  Mrs. Michael was born in Davidson county, Jan. 14, 1852, seven miles south of Winston-Salem. She was the only daughter by the first wife of the late Rev. Thomas Long and Elizabeth Ferguson Long. There were three brothers: J. Samuel Long, Jacob F. Long and William A. Long the last named living at Fair Grove, Mo., the two former having preceded her to the grave. One half-brother, C.E. Long of Newton, and two half sisters, Mrs. Herman Walker of Greensboro and Mrs. Charles E. Snyder of Richmond, Va., also survive. She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, Philip W. Michael, and the following children: Miss Minnie Michael of Hickory; Mrs. Charles W. Warlick of Mount Pleasant; Mrs. M. Frank Carpenter of Maiden; J. Frank Michael of Springfield, Mo; Mrs. R.L. Starnes, Highwood, Mont; Mrs. Arthur F. Bittle and Mrs. Manson H. Bailey of Glasgow, Mont; seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn her passing.

• Biography*: Mrs. Howard Mae Michael Hinson, age 93 of Brookdale of Lexington formerly of Park Street Lexington passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Brookdale.
  A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 25, 2020 at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Ray Howell, 3rd officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the service and at other times at the home of her daughter on Sawgrass Lane in Lexington.
  Mrs. Hinson was born in Davidson County June 12, 1926 to J. Howard Michael and Ethel Hill Michael. She was a member of First Baptist Church and taught Kindergarten at First United Methodist church for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved gardening and working in her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Douglas “Doug” Hinson, Sr; sisters, Euphie Cherry and Patty Fisher and a brother, J.H. Michael.
  Surviving are her daughter, Monette Frye (Marc) of Lexington; son, Doug Hinson (Joan) of Ocracoke, NC; grandsons, Chad Frye (Catherine) and Charlie Frye (Lydia) all of Holly Springs and 2 great-grandchildren, Hudson Byrd and William Frye.
  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers that cared for our mom over the last several years that allowed her the ability to stay at home.
