  The court record reads as follows: John A. Clodfelter's Will. State of North Carolina. Davidson County. I John A. Clodfelter of the above named State and County, being of sound mind and memory but knowing the uncertaining of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and testament, viz; First - It is my will that my Executors hereafter named pay all my legal debts out of the first money coming into their hands belonging to my estate. Second - It is my will that my entire estate both real and personal be divided equally between my wife Maria Clodfelter and my children Eliza J. Thomas, George Clodfelter, David Clodfelter, Bell Nifong and my grandchildren of my son Jacob Clodfelter. Third - It is my will that my son Jacob Clodfelter be entirely excluded from any share in my estate for the following reasons, first from the fact that he is not competent to manage affairs successfully on account of the habitual use of strong drink: second that I have already advanced some money in the way of paying him out of difficulties. Fourth - It is my will and desire that my grandaughter wife of my son David Clodfelter be forever excluded from any share in my estate. Fifth - I do nominate and appoint my son George Clodfelter and my son in law Adolphus Thomas to be the Executors of this my last will and testament.
