• Biography*: In the early 1840's John sold much of his land he had inherited. He sold 517 acres at one time and small acreages at other times.
  
  His Will was written in May, 1847 and recorded in the Aug., 1847, Term of Court.
  
  The slave, John, that he mentions in his Will was the boy slave left to him by his grandfather, James, Sr., in his Will made in 1837. John Humphrey was to get the slave at his grandmother's death. Court records show that John, the slave, about 23 years old, was sold in Nov., 1847 after John Humphrey died.
  
  Will of John Humphrey - Made 13 May, 1847. In the name of God, Amen. I, John Humphrey of the County of Robeson and State of North Carolina, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, to-wit - It is my will and desire that Olif Tiner take my son, William Humphrey, and raise him and send him to school and as a compensation for which I do give and bequeath to her one milch cow and one bed and furniture also the liberty and right of cultivating the plantation in which I now live and priviledges of the houses and appurtenances thereto belonging for a term of ten years, then her claim to it on any part of it is to expire and the land so occupied by her to be the exclusive property of my son, William Humphrey. Except the 50 acres on which William Tiner now lives. It is my will and desire that he, William Tiner, shall have that 50 acres at the price of two dollars per acre, if he thinks proper to take it.   Mr. Porter was born October 18, 1932 in Rains County, Texas to W.O. Porter and Mary Humphrey Porter. He married Nancy Porter on February 23, 1957, who preceded him in death. He married Winnie Porter on March 16, 2003. He worked for White/Kenworth Trucking Company and Mesquite I.S.D. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Creekside Church of Christ.
  
  He is survived by his wife, Winnie Marie Porter; sons, Joe Ben Porter and wife, Renea of Maypearl, Richard Jess Porter of Dallas; daughter, Brenda Bryan and husband, Mark of Mesquite; grandchildren, Matt Bryan & wife, Courtney, Stacy Brooks & husband, Brandon, Lindsey Porter, Brian Porter & wife, Cara, Cory and Liz Lederman, Chad and Candice Lederman, Misty and Daniel Lopez and Andra and Brian Barton; twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
  
  He is preceded in death by his parents, and first wife, Nancy Porter.

  Joseph Roy Humphrey passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of May 9, 2016 at the Retirement and Nursing Center in Austin, Texas.
  
  Joe, or J.R., was born in Point, Texas on September 14, 1918. He graduated from Texas A&M University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served as a pilot and flight instructor during World War II. After the war, Joe married fellow Navy flight instructor, Louise L. Humphrey, and started a family. He worked in the agricultural business and after retirement maintained a small farm. Joe was also as a private flight instructor and served in the Civil Air Patrol. Joe's hobbies included reading, gardening, playing dominoes, flying, and bird-watching.
  
  Joe is survived by his children, Carol Dillard, David Humphrey, Mary Humphrey, Thomas Humphrey, and Elizabeth Johnson, his grandchildren, as well as other family members and friends.
  
  The family wants to express its deepest appreciation to the wonderful staff at the Retirement and Nursing Center, who provided Joe with good care and showed him such kindness during his final years. Also, in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully recommends donations to groups such as Family Eldercare who provide services to the elderly or to groups such as the Civil Air Patrol who provide rescue and disaster relief services.
  
  Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM-4:00 pm PM the All Faiths Funeral Home, 8507 North IH-35, Austin, Texas 78753.

Anna Kathryn Humphrey Hall passed away at home Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011. She was 91, born in Point, Texas, on Oct. 29, 1920. She was our beloved wife and mother, the center of our home and the sunshine in our hearts. Her long life included helping her mother feed the homeless from their family farm during the Great Depression, being a civilian worker on the Manhattan Project, a loving and tender wife and mother, a dedicated third-grade teacher and a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clarence Elton Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Richard Schroeder; daughter, Elizabeth Lea Hall; her brother, Joseph Robert Humphrey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Allen Hall; her parents, Alan Alexander Humphrey and Lutitia Humphrey; in addition to her two brothers and two sisters. He was 91, born in Old Boston, Texas, on May 18, 1920. Dad was the rock of strength of our family. He loved the Lord, his family, his country and LSU. He was a professor emeritus from the College of Engineering. After his official retirement from LSU in 1985, he spent 10 years working with the Department of Continuing Education. His passion was learning. His vocation was teaching, whether it was the word of the Lord or engineering graphics. He taught his students the practical ways of industry as well as the knowledge that comes from books. He taught his family and lived his life as an example for others to learn the commandment of the Lord: Love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as you love yourself. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Lea Hall; his daughter and son-in-law, Judith Kathryn and Richard Schroeder; his brothers, James Lloyd Hall and Herbert Murl Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
