SALISBURY - Dow Vick Perry, of Salisbury, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at his home in Salisbury.
Dow was born in Louisburg on May 20, 1934, and was the son of the late Hugh and Gladys Perry. He was a graduate of Mills High School and N.C. State University. He was married to Mary Keith Perry on Sept. 20, 1958. and was a devoted husband, father and civic leader.
Dow was an active and loyal member of First United Methodist Church, where his leadership was valued; and his support of numerous activities included the Chancel Choir, serving as a Sunday School teacher and on many committees.
He was a captain in the U.S. Army, a member of the PKA fraternity, served as Scoutmaster for Troop 440, and served on the boards of the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Rowan Arts Council and numerous other organizations.
Dow was an executive at Celanese Corporation during his 30-year career. His many friends included members of his neighborhood, his church, his bridge club, as well as fellow members of the organizations he supported.
A lifelong supporter of N.C. State athletics, he enjoyed attending Wolfpack football and basketball games with his friends and family.
Dow was the solid foundation that sheltered his wife and sons with the immense love that he had for them. His character and warm personality were immediately accessible to all those who loved him and learned by his example. He was truly the good man he appeared to be.
Dow is survived by his three sons, Vick Perry and wife Christie of Seattle (grandchildren Laura and Eva), Keith Perry of Raleigh and Kent Perry and wife Teresa of San Carlos, Calif. (grandchildren Madeline and Benjamin); and Dow's sister, Jane Gray Pearce of Pleasant Garden.
Service and Visitation: A service celebrating his life will be held Friday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen D. Haines officiating. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. A private memorial service at City Memorial Park will be held prior to the church service.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to First Methodist Church, Endowment Fund, 217 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Born in Teachy, NC, Pete celebrated 59 years of marriage to Gladys Ballenger McMillan. He is survived by his sons, David and Greg, daughter Penny, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Pete served as Tech Sergeant in the US Army 90th Airborne Squadron during WWII.
Pete established Pete McMillan Furniture in 1952 and was a member of Jacksonville First Presbyterian Church.
