  War Record of Bunyan Stansel:
  Bunyan Stansel born Nov. 14, 1833 - Apr. 1861 went into camp on coast below Wilmington, N.C. In Company "D" N.C. Regiment - Infantry as a private. Went to the coast below Charleston, S.C. In the fall left there for the fight below Newbern, N.C; but it was all over. Went into camp at Kinston. Left there for West Virginina. Went into camp at Gordensville, Va. Left there for the seven days fight around Richmond. Came in contact with Gen. Foster's command at Hanover Court House May 27, '62. Was wounded around 3 P.M. that day and was taken prisoner at sundown.
  Kept in field hospital about ten days when leg was amputated. Carried then to Fortress Monroe. Remained until October. With other prisoners we were exchanged at Aiken's Landing on James River 12 miles below Richmond. From there to Johnston Co., N.C. and stayed all winter. Came to Lumberton [NC] and served as travelling agent for the commissary department. Then was appointed Tithe Collector for Robeson Co. [NC] and served until the war ended.
  Our Command was under Brigadier General Branch of N.C. at time I was wounded.
