    Mrs. West is survived by her husband, Elwood West, Sr. of the home; her children, Elwood West, Jr. and wife Kim, Audrey Morton and husband, Jerome and Bobbie West and fiancé Larry Turner, all of Lumberton, Edwin West of Weldon, Ricky West and wife Kim of Currie and Dennis West and wife Lucy of Atkinson; a brother Willis Walters, Jr. of Lumberton; four sisters, Peggy Parker of Lumberton, Martha Ivey of Orrum, Sandra Parker of Hope Mills and Myra Wilkins of Lumberton; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a special sister-in-law, Theresa Wiggins.

    A funeral service will be held at Long Branch Baptist Church in Lumberton with Pastor Jeff Broadwell and Pastor Bob Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the West Family Cemetery.

    Obituary:

    Andrew Grey Williamson died on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Scotia Village in Laurinburg.

    Born in 1925 in Lumberton, Andy graduated from Lumberton High School before enrolling at the former Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton, He subsequently volunteered for military service as a U.S. Naval Air Corps pilot before completing his education, first at the University of South Carolina, and then at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he graduated from law school in 1950. He married Ann Holt Mitchell of Columbus, Ga. in 1951, and he and Ann moved to Maxton, where Andy served as Solicitor for the Maxton Recorder's Court from 1951 until 1958. In 1958, Laurinburg attorney James Mason and Andy founded the law firm of Mason and Williamson.

    In 1960, Andy and Ann moved to Laurinburg where he began four decades of "behind the scenes" service to the Laurinburg and Scotland County area. He was instrumental in designing an industrial development program, helping bring over twenty industrial employers to the Scotland County-Maxton area over a 20 year period. He was also one of 42 local government leaders, Chamber members and volunteers to travel to Milwaukee to present Laurinburg's bid to be selected as an All-American City. Chosen by the group to make the presentation, in 10 minutes Andy convinced the jury that Laurinburg deserved the award for the second time, the first North Carolina city to be so honored.

    Andy was also instrumental in the recruitment and development of many prized local institutions. He served as chairman of Scotland Memorial Hospital's Board of Trustees and with others was instrumental in the decision to relocate the hospital to its current location on Lauchwood Drive in 1983. Andy twice served as member of the Board of Trustees of St. Andrews Presbyterian College. In the early 1980s, Andy was one of the original community leaders to meet with Presbyterian Homes, Inc. to explore the possibility of a continuing care retirement community in Laurinburg. He devoted a great deal of time, energy, and commitment in helping establish Scotia Village, serving as one of the original members of the Scotia Village Board of Trustees and twice as its president. His wife, Ann, became a resident of Scotia in 2000 and Andy became a resident in 2002.

    Andy served for many years as an elder of the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church and was named Elder Emeritus in 2009. He served as President of the Laurinburg Rotary Club and of Laurinburg's Chamber of Commerce. He served as trustee for the North Carolina Cancer Institute and accumulated numerous honors in the legal arena, including his election as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, his membership on the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association, and nine years on the North Carolina State Bar Council.

    In all his endeavors, Andy Williamson was respected for his integrity, his commitment to his community, and his compassion for all people. Never seeking personal recognition for his service, he was motivated by only one goal: to improve the quality of the lives of the citizens of the Laurinburg and Scotland County community.

    Andy Williamson was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Ann Holt Mitchell-Williamson and his parents, Joseph Manoe Williamson and Rae Matha Bullard-Williamson.

    He is survived by his daughter Van Williamson Garrison and son-in-law Richard Garrison of Raleigh, his son Andrew (Drew) Grey Williamson Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathy Williamson, three grandchildren: Holt, Sara, and Berry Williamson, all of Laurinburg, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. He also leaves behind his beloved Scotia Village community, where he lived his last 11 years with grace and dignity. The family is especially indebted for the love and concern shown by Elaine Wright, Lisa Pinkney, and Freddie Muldrow.
