  Fairmont, Jan 20.---Last Thursday night
  the small village of Barnesville was the victim
  of a fire which destroyed two general merchandise
  stores and contents, and for some time threatened
  a large storage warehouse nearly filled with cotton.
  The fire was discovered at 3 a. m. and had gained
  such headway that nothing could be saved. The
  losers are W. C. Walters and Dan Prevatte, both
  doing a general merchandise business in two small
  wooden stores. According to reports reaching here,
  the few who gathered at the scene formed a bucket
  brigade and worked frantically to save the cotton in
  the near-by wooden building. The wind was blowing
  hard and the air was cold, but some fought the
  flames very scantily clad, and saved a great loss,
  Messrs. Walters and Prevatte carried some
  insurance, but not enough to cover the loss,
  which is estimated at several thousand dollars.
  The cause of the fire is unknown.

  He was the son of William Walters and Nellie Rhodes. He was married to
  Elizabeth Regan.
  
  Dan Prevatte was his brother in law and married to his sister Mortie Cornelia
  Walters. Dan was born April 3, 1881 and died April 20, 1966.
