MRS. BARKER OF CATES IS DEAD
81-Year-Old Woman Succumbs After Year's Illness-Rites Wednesday
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Shoaf Barker, 81, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mamie Tunin, of Cates, Monday night, January 4, 1937 at 9:30 o'clock after a years illness with infirmities of age.
She was born in Parke county on January 28, 1855, the daughter of Michael and Esther Shoaf and on November 13, 1880, she became the wife of Isaac Barker. She was the last of a family of six children. Her husband preceded her in death two years ago.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tunin, at whose home she died; three sons, Ira Barker of Mecca, Elmer of Veedersburg, and Guy Barker of Cates; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held from Cates United Brethren church Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. W. N. Sherrill of Bloomington, officiating and burial was made in the Harveysburg cemetery. - Birth*: Mary Elizabeth Shoaf was born on 28 Jan 1855 at Parke County, IN.
