  She is survived by two sons, James A Sowers and Robert A Sowers, both of Overbrook; a daughter, Helen I Offen, Scottsdale, AZ; a sister Nelle Rogers, Topeka; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
  
  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Sowers and Frances Sowers.

  He was born Feb. 11, 1931, at Wakarusa, the son of Jacob A. Sowers and Mamie E. Turner Sowers.
  
  He was a long-standing member of the Overbrook community. He graduated from Overbrook High School with the class of 1949.
  
  He was a farmer and retired as a mail carrier. He was a member and Past Master of Overbrook Masonic Ridgeway Lodge No. 62, a life member of Scottish Rite and a member of Topeka Arab Shriners.
  
  He was very active with his grandchildren. He loved to play cards and dominoes. He also liked to go fishing and hunting.
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Marie Sowers and Dorothy Ann Sowers; a brother, James A. Sowers; and his companion of more than 30 years, Belle Hoffecker.
  
  He is survived by four sons, Danny Sowers, Gate, Okla., Lloyd Sowers and wife, Kathy, Burlingame, Alva Sowers and wife, Donna, Overbrook, and David Sowers and wife, Cathy, Overbrook; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Offen, Scottsdale, Ariz; and a companion, Margaret Dahlstrom, Topeka.
  
  Family will greet friends 6-8 p.m. Sept. 24 at Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, Overbrook. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at United Methodist Church, Overbrook. Burial will follow at Overbrook Cemetery.

• Biography*: Michael received a 40 acre land grant (NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 8 in Sugarcreek Township, in Parke County, Indiana on January 03, 1838 (Certificate # 32745 issued September 10, 1838 by the Crawfordsville, General Land Office of the U. S. ). Michael was a farmer, living in Parke County, Indiana. He was buried at Phranuel Lutheran Cemetery, near Wallace, in Fountain County. Indiana; Row 22 1/2, Grave15.

• Biography*: Taken from the 1893 publication of Portraits and records of Parke, Montgomery, and Fountain Counties; Philip Shoaf is the owner of a farm located on section 3, Sugar Creek Township, Parke County, Indiana. The place comprising one hundred and thirteen acres. He is numbered among the progressive farmers of the township, and whatever he has acquired has been made by the hardest efforts since reaching his majority. He began working at cutting rails and cordwood, receiving twenty-five cents for one hundred of the former, and a like sum for each cord of four-foot wood. Often, he received only thirty-seven and a-half cents for a hard day's labor, and during harvest worked with the old fashioned sickle for seventy-five cents a day. He was born in Davidson County, N.C. December 5, 1824, and is a son of David and Mary C. (Sowers) Shoaf. The former's father, whose Christian name was Jacob, was born in Germany, and came to the United States before the Revolutionary War, settling in North Carolina, where he married and reared his familly of five children on a farm. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church, and lived to a good old age.
  
  It was in 1799 that the birth of David Shoaf occurred. This event took place in North Carolina, where he lived until after his marriage. Eight sons were the results of this union, viz: Michael, William, Phillip, David, Jacob, Solomon, Alfred, and Henry, who are all living. About 1826, the father emigrated to Kentucky with his family, making the journey with a wagon, and four years later came to Parke County, locating on Raccoon Creek. He afterward removed to Illinois, where he died at the age of eighty-one years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and was, politically, a Democrat. Our subject's mother having died when he was only ten years old, the father married his first wife's cousin, Mrs. Catherine Myers, nee Sowers, and to them were born the following children: Margaret, (deceased), Samuel, Andrew, Viola, Joseph, and Emmeline.
  
  When about twenty-five years old, Phillip Shoaf and Dillie Sowers were united in wedlock. She was his second cousin, and a daughter of David and Sarah (Long) Sowers. Nine children came to bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Shoaf: Sarah, Jemima, Mary; Alonzo and David, who died within one hour of each other with typhoid fever; Martha, Rosella, and Perry W. Solomon, the fifth child, was bitten by a mad dog, and though treated by a mad stone, at the end of nine weeks died from hydrophobia. During the late war, Mr. Shoaf, who was not able to leave home on account of his little family, was obliged to pay $1,000 for a substitute. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, to which his wife also belongs, and in political faith is a Democrat.
  
  Phillip Shoaf died March 26, 1910 at Sugar Creek Township, at 85 years of age. The immediate cause of death given was cerebral hemorrhage. He was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery. Dilla Shoaf died February 23, 1917, at Marshall, Indiana, at 88 years of age. The immediate cause of death given was apoplexy with paralysis and general old age debility. She was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery, Wallace, Indiana. Phanuel Lutheran Cemetery Records show that Phillip and Dilla were buried in Row 18, graves 27 and 28, respectively.

• Biography*: Alfred moved from IN to IL about 1868-69; then moved to KS in 1876.
  The US Census of 1900 shows them in Payne County, Oklahoma.
  In March of 1917, Alfred and Elizabeth moved to Concrete, Fremont County, CO to live with their youngest child, Frank, and his family. They lived there until their deaths.
  
  "Aged Father of Lee Shoaf Passes Away
  Alfred Shoaf, aged 86 years, died at the home of his son, Frank, near Westcliff, Colo., Tuesday shortly before 12 o'clock. Deceased was a native of Indiana but for the past four years has been making his home in Colorado. Death was due to a complication arising for advanced age. He is survived by four daughters, Mesdames Jane Michaels (Rebecca Jane Shoaf married Samuel Michaels, ed.), Ella Bladsoe (Sarah Ella Shoaf married Phillip Bledsoe, ed.), Asha Nicholls (Asha Estella Shoaf married Stanford Nichols, ed.), all of Kansas and two sons, Frank of Westcliffe and Lee (aka Andrew Lee Shoaf, ed.) of this place. The remains were taken to the Delbert parlors at Florence from whence the funeral will be held tomorrow."
