  Willie Lenora “Bill” Poteat, 82, of Salisbury, died Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) at his home after a month of illness.
  
  Born June 17, 1917, in Rowan County, Mr. Poteat was the son of the late Mackie Lenora Wood and Robert Blocke Poteat. Educated in the Davidson County Schools, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
  
  Mr. Poteat retired from Food Town in 1980 as a truck driver. He was a member of Phaniels Baptist Church.
  
  Survivors include his wife, Elvie Irene Russ Poteat, whom he married Oct. 18, 1940; two sons, Jimmie Lee Poteat, of the home, and Kenneth “Dwight” Poteat, Rockwell; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Mary) Strickland, Abbeville, La; a brother, Hank Poteat, Spring Branch, Texas; three sisters, Ada Rogers, High Point, Mary Frances Cobb, China Grove, and Betty Greene, Davidson; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
  
  Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Phaniels Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Taylor, pastor, and the Rev. Ray Yarbrough. Burial, church cemetery, with military graveside services by the Rowan County Veterans Council.

  JAMESTOWN - Margie Esther Poteat, 87, of 1111 Bales Chapel Road, died June 20, 2008, at High Point Memorial Hospital. She died of complications resulting from a fall.
  
  Esther was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late James Hobart McKinley Morris and Maggie Esther Poole Morris. On Aug. 16, 1941, she married George Edward Poteat, who preceded her in death.
  
  Throughout her life, she worked at various jobs in the High Point area.
  
  Esther is survived by two daughters, Linda Blanton and husband Bill Blanton of Miami, Fla., and Marie Poteat of Auburn Hills, Mich; one sister, Jean Sheets of Terrell; one brother, Jimmy Morris of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Randall Yow of Jamestown, Ellie Blanton Palay of Alexandria, Va., and Bill Blanton of Portland, Ore; and one great-grandchild, Samuel Wolfe Palay of Alexandria, Va.
  
  At our mother's request, she will be cremated.
