• Biography*: Obituary for Clara Hendrix Poteat
  Clara Hendrix Poteat, 97, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at The Laurels of Salisbury.
  
  Born August 30, 1919 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Dennie Linnet and Fannie Myers Hendrix.
  
  Mrs. Poteat attended Enon School and graduated from Boyden High School in 1935.
  
  She was a seamstress by trade having worked at Leisure Lads, Erik Anders and other sewing rooms. She was also a nursing assistant at Rowan Memorial Hospital.
  
  Clara had a life filled with music. She participated in the Enon Church Choir for more than 75 years and the Salisbury Rowan Choral Society for 48 years. She served as the Society Seamstress, making many of the matched clothes for the productions. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
  
  On Feb. 4, 1939, she married Robert Wood Poteat. He died February 23, 1959. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, John, Melvin, Lester and Hoyle Hendrix and sisters, Lucille Lippard and Mildred Poteat.
  
  Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Carlos Wood Poteat (Hazel) of Salisbury, Viola Elizabeth Yates (John) of Salisbury, Irene Poteats Yates (Donald) of Cleveland; brother, Robert Hendrix (Polly) of Raleigh; ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren 13 great great-grandchildren.
  
  The family will receive friends 1-2 PM Friday (Dec. 16) at Enon Baptist Church.
  
  Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Friday at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Clark and Rev. Wayne Trexler officiating. Interment will follow at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
  
  We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those who showed their love thru visits, gifts, cards, phone calls, etc. A special thank you to the staff at The Laurels of Salisbury and Rowan Hospice for their loving care of our mother, Clara. Also a special thanks to three special friends, Faye, Kay and Ken who brought much joy to her life.
