  Mrs. Thornal was born June 2, 1910 in China Spring. She graduated from Waco High School in 1926 and received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Baylor University in 1932 and 1956, respectively.
  Mrs. Thornal married J.A. Thornal in 1932.
  She taught school in Waco, Bosqueville, Connally and Midway for 50 years. She was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 60 years and played the organ for 75 years.
  Survivors include her husband; two sons, Charles Thornal of Waco and Royce Thornal of DeSoto; sister, Ruth Hulbert of Gholson; two brother, Morris Hill of Baton Rouge, LA and Eugene Hill of Hurst; four grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

  James Royce Thornal of Red Oak, Texas, passed away on January 9, 2021, at the age of 77 and is in the presence of his Lord and Savior, singing in the Heavenly choir.
  
  Royce was born in Waco, Texas, on December 2, 1943, to James Augustus (J.A.) and Fannie (Hill) Thornal where he grew up with older brother, Charles. Royce graduated from University High School where a love for basketball flourished. Royce had a unique combination of talents. He graduated from Baylor University in 1966.
  
  After college, his career began as a high school basketball coach and teacher. While connecting to the younger generation, he served as a music and youth director then eventually becoming a pastor. Royce served on staff at various Texas churches in the cities of Bellmead, Waco, Houston, McAllen, Mexia, Woodway, Liberty, DeSoto, North Richland Hills, and Waxahachie. Plus, he also helped to establish successful Christian schools in several of these churches. He also worked in helping schools with fundraising opportunities through the Liberty Card of Texas. Royce became a licensed Texas insurance adjuster after Hurricane Katrina. He, alongside Janita, served as an on-site Cares Team through Apartment Life. Upon retiring, he was a beloved substitute at DeSoto ISD.
  
  Survived by wife, Janita Dickinson Thornal; children, Wendy (Shannon) Morris, Kevin (Danielle) Thornal; and stepdaughter, Kelsie (Jeremy) Irion; grandchildren, Tory (Ryan) Landis, Cody Morris, Madison Thornal, Jax Thornal; and stepgrandchildren, Kolten Irion and Kahlen Irion; great-granddaughter, Blakely Landis; brother, Charles (Dorothy) Thornal; niece and nephew.
  
  Royce was preceded in death by parents, J.A. and Fannie Thornal; and daughter, D'Ann Thornal.
  
  A "Celebration of Life" Memorial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 6, at Farley Street Baptist Church; 1116 Brown Street; Waxahachie, TX. His body was donated to science through the UNT Willed Body Program.

  She graduated from Palestine High School and attended Texas State College for Women (Texas Women's College) Denton, Texas and in 1943 graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Music Education, piano and organ. Jane was a gifted pianist and organist at various churches as well as an elder and faithful member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston. She was a member of the Houston Junior League Luncheon Club and was a former volunteer at M.D. Anderson Hospital, where she received a 3,000 hour pin. She was active in the Del Monte II Garden Club and enjoyed entertaining friends and family at Sea Isle, Galveston, in addition to being an active bridge player, and never met a stranger. Known as a gracious lady, she loved to travel with the Flying Longhorns as a life-member of the Texas Exes.
  She was predeceased in death by husbands, W.H. Bruyere and Glenn English; her daughter, Ann Bruyere Feagin; ; her son, Bob Bruyere and brother, Charles Robinson.

  "Evelyn Davis Jordan passed away June 29, 2009, after sustaining a head injury following an accidental fall a few hours earlier. After 98 years of blessed time on this earth, she is peacefully in the arms of her Lord and Saviour. Evelyn lived every day with hope and love and died leaving a full calendar of summer plans. She was a lifetime resident of Palestine, Tx., and was peacefully living in her home where she had resided for almost 70 years. Born on the family farm in Pert, TX, on Jan. 30, 1911, Evelyn's had vivid memories of the early 1900's such as hitching up the horse and wagon and riding to town on Saturdays, helping at her father's cotton gin, and lighting an oil lantern every morning to practice her piano lessons. Her parents were Charles Dixon Davis and Johnnie Edna Cox, whose parents were pioneer settlers from North Carolina to Anderson County in 1867. The land purchased in 1868 by them is still a part of the Davis family today. Evelyn was the 7th and youngest child, and her deceased siblings include Alva Davis Robinson, John Tom Davis, Charles Clifford Davis, and Sarah Davis Earle. Over 98 years of life were hardly long enough for Evelyn. She lived each day to the fullest and was always ready for something more. No one can understand how Evelyn could fill one day with so many activities, people and fun, but she did, and she enjoyed every second with her family and friends. She was truly interested in everyone's life, and she did not want to miss a minute of anything. Evelyn could never comprehend the fact her family was always so proud she was in her 90's and still sporting a youthful spirit that was contagious to all because, in reality, she never saw herself as "old. "Evelyn's early school years were spent in a one-room, white schoolhouse in Pert, walking five miles each way to school; she went on to graduate from Palestine High School in 1926 at the age of 15. Evelyn then attended SMU and studied under Dr. Paul van Katwijk where she graduated in 1931 with two degrees, a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Public School Music. She also earned a degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. The Chopin, Bach, and Beethoven classical pieces she performed or her SMU senior recital were still played beautifully by Evelyn to this day. Her special touch on the piano blessed many people. After college, Evelyn taught private piano lessons in Palestine. In the days where women rarely traveled abroad, she and her sister Sara lived in Puerto Rico in 1933 for a year, where Evelyn taught English and music. Evelyn also had an apartment in Central Park, New York, where she continued her music studies. On Christmas Day in 1938, Evelyn married the love of her life, Henry Latimer Jordan, a longtime Palestine attorney who died 62 years later in 2001. Henry and Evelyn were enthusiastic bridge players and enjoyed many great years in bridge clubs and playing with their fun-loving friends. Together they loved to travel and enjoyed taking many cruises together. Although Evelyn grew up in the little country Methodist Church in Pert, founded by her parents, she has been an active member of the First Presbyterian church in Palestine for around 60 years, where she often played the piano. Evelyn was active in her beloved Guion Music Club, DAR, bridge clubs and the Harvey Women's Club, where she loved spending time with her dearest friends. She was an avid tennis player and participated in tournaments where she won several championships with her daughter Judy. Evelyn encouraged people of all ages in playing tennis, and she played herself well into her 80s. She has been an enthusiastic member of the YMCA for years. Evelyn was even exercising and socializing at the Palestine YMCA the day before her death. Above all, Evelyn's joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was generous, gracious and the perfect role-model for simplicity, a positive attitude and Christ-like living. Evelyn knew what was important in life and never compromised. She was deeply loved and cherished by her family and will be dearly missed and her legacy will live on. • Biography*: Bessie Grubb Clark, 94, of Centerclair Nursing Center, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at the nursing home after a serious illness of six weeks. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Hochmuth officiating. Mrs. Clark will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of the service. She was born on May 4, 1914, in Davidson County to Jacob L. and Rosa Grubb. She loved flowers and her small vegetable garden, which she had until she was 90. She worked in the cotton mills and then furniture for several years until she retired. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Clark; one son, Ray Lloyd Grubb; two brothers, John Grubb and Jacob L. Grubb, Jr; and one sister, Frances Younts. Surviving are one brother, W. James Grubb and his wife, Juanita; one sister, Nancy Garner and husband, Fred, all of Lexington; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home of her sister, Nancy Garner, 515 C.L. Wagner Rd. in Lexington. The family wishes to thank our special friend, Branson Allred and family who have been a special blessing to Bessie and her family. Our thanks to Brookstone and Centerclair, who have taken special care of her for the last four years.
