- Biography*: He was a member of the Methodist church and led an active Christian life. Harry Sowers, as he was generally known, was a kind husband and father and his heart was filled with charity for all and ill toward none. He never turned strangers away from his door and has by this means entertained "angels unawares". At the hospital they expressed their regrets for they said, "We all learned to love Dad Sowers and now we will miss him." When he was sixteen years old in 1863, he enlisted in the Iowa Calvary and served his country for more than two years during the Civil War.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Clearmont. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. His casket was covered with the U.S. flag and the flowers were many. Many long-time friends came to pay a tribute of respect and the Clearmont News said, "Now, with the passing of Harry, the last in the list, they have all gone into the great beyond. May the dear (soldier) boys of 1863 rest in peace." - Birth*: William was born on 28 Jul 1847 at Culbertson, Marion County, IN.
