• Biography*: Note, Source: Frank Nelson - Peter T., his father, had visited America on two occasions before deciding to bring his family from their native Denmark. When Peter C. was just 11 years old, the family went to Liverpool, England and from there boarded a passenger ship, the "City of Rome". It landed in New York City in the fall of 1886. They went immediately to Oberlin, Kansas by train and then overland to Clinton Township in Rawlins County, Kansas. Their first home was made of sod, a dugout! Peter C. Nelson spent the next few years there with his folks until his mother's death in 1891. After that, he hired out as a farm hand and often herded cattle on the open range.
• Biography: Peter and Carrie lived first in a sod house 4 miles south of Colby on land owned by Peter but soon moved to the Hubbard Ranch near Cumberland, Kansas where Wray Harris was born, April 17, 1900 and Cloyd Byron was born November 16, 1901. Using their homestead rights in 1903 they bought a Relinqhishment Claim to a homestead in Rawlins county, Kansas where Fryma Rose was born March 15, 1905 and Geneva Bell born September 18, 1909. Vida Uell was born October 6, 1912 near Tully, Kansas. In 1914 Peter and Carrie sold the homestead and used the proceeds to help purchase a farm on the Rawlins-Thomas county line, part of which lay in Thomas county. Peter was well known for his buying, selling, and trading of horses. In 1922 Peter and Carrie moved to a new farm near Colby with their 3 daughters and their son Cloyd and wife Lois.
  
  Peter Nelson was a Kansas landowner, engaged in farming throughout his life. In the early 1930's Peter and his family farmed with a John Deere tractor, and was one of the first to buy a Gleaner Baldwin combine to harvest grain. Peter also owned a Fordson tractor, a Reo truck for hauling grain and a Reo touring car. He was one of those early pioneers who helped to make Kansas the agricultural state it is today.
  
  During the last twenty-five years of his life Peter lived in Colby, Kansas with Carrie. Peter was a light-hearted, happy-go-lucky kind of a fellow.
  
  Through the years Peter and Carrie took an active part in Sunday School and church activities at the Cumberland, Lone Star and Colby Methodist Churches.
