George, Aug., 1878, single, IN, IN, NC. Monroe, Dec., 1880, single, IN, IN, NC. Reichard, Samuel - brother, born Jun., 1828, NC, NC, NC. Wallace, IN, Dec. 14th - from Hazel Morgan Smith's scrapbook - Phoebe Gooding, 90, one of the oldest residents of the community, died at her home one mile south of here Thursday at seven o'clock. Death was due to pneumonia from which Mrs. Gooding had suffered for the past week. The deceased was practically a lifetime resident of the community, having moved here when 9 months old. Mrs. Gooding was the daughter of Michael and Sarah Bowers Sowers. She was born in Davidson County, NC, on Feb. 7, 1838. Her marriage took place to Thomas Gooding on November 22, 1857. Mr. Gooding died 30 years ago. Mrs. Gooding was a member of the Lutheran Church. The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Newkirk of Wallace and Mrs. George T. Alward of Grange Corner; 3 sons, Noah and Monroe of Wallace and Samuel of Decatur, IL, seventeen grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The funeral servics will be held Sat. morning at 11 o'clock at the Lutheran Church. Rev. Ishiah Whitman of Mulberry will have charge of the services. Burial will be made in the Lutheran cemetery. From Wallace, IN, Sesquicentennial Book by Judy Harvey, page 202, "Phoeba was known for her kindness to unfortunate ones and her "latch string" was hung out for any who needed help or shelter. She was known to work long hours at her spinning wheel and on warm weather nights her wheel could be heard in the distance as she busily spun the yarn.

• Biography*: Poppa Sam built the first and only Sears-Roebuck house in Walthall County, MS, between 1908 and 1909. It's estimated cost was $1,000. It was of the victorian style and had ginger bread trim. The house was shipped to McComb, MS by train where he had to go pick it up with wagon and mules. He was noted as one of the richest men in the county, as well as quite a character. It appears he was quite a ladies man. He married and divorced four times. He went to jail at least twice. Once for moonshine and another for attempted murder. While in Sartinsville, Sam, Eliza and her sister were confronted by some known bullies. Sam pulled his gun and shot Price Thornhill. Price was paralyzed the rest of his life. Sam was let out of jail when it was discovered that the bullet was lead and Sam always made his own bullets with steel jackets. Sam seemed to have been very close to his mother. He was the one of all the brothers and sisters that took care of her in her old age.

• Biography*: Mr. W. H. Regan, a lifelong resident of this county was found dead in bed at his home about two miles south of this city, last Friday morning at about ten o'clock. Mr. Regan had been complaining for several days, and feeling bad Friday morning he retired to his room to rest awhile. Remaining in his room for an unusual length of time members of the family became worried over his absence and went to his room when it was discovered he was dead. An attack of heart failure is supposed to be the cause of Mr. Regan's death.
  
  The funeral services took place Saturday morning at the residence, at 10 o'clock, after which the remains were accompanied to the local cemetery for interment, by a large host of the friends of the family.
  
  The deceased is survived by his wife and six children, three daughters and three sons, to all of whom this paper joins their friends in the extension of sympathy.
