  He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Bladen County, N.C., to Minnie Lee Carr Croom and Oscar Arthur Croom; and he grew up in Bolton, N.C. His parents and two brothers, Clifton and Wendell, and his wife of 65 years, Ann, precede him in death. During WWII Delwin was a C-47 Troop Transport pilot in the 8th Air Force serving in the European Theater. Following the War, he graduated from North Carolina State University and moved to Hampton to join the NACA/NASA research team where he worked on a variety of airplanes, spacecraft, and other flying concepts. He retired after 36 years of service. He was later inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame for his part in the research and development of parawings and hang gliders. For more than 50 years he was an active member of Hampton Baptist Church serving three terms as a Deacon. He was a dedicated member of the Northampton Lions Club, known for working to end preventable blindness. He had a remarkable 47-year perfect attendance record and held many offices, including President. He was honored for his devotion to the Club with the prestigious Fellowship Award. Delwin formed lifelong friendships through his associations with the church, the Lions Club, the Langley Golf Association, and several bridge groups. His family will remember him as kind, compassionate, and generous, and he will remain in our hearts forever.

  Dorothy East James, 94, of Hamlet, entered through the gates of heaven on Friday, November 12, 2021 at her residence.
  
  Dorothy, also known by many as “Mama Dot”, was born May 2, 1927 in Elizabethtown, NC to Mr. Russell East and Mrs. Annie Neal East Thomas. She married Therbert Dewitt James, Sr. on September 12, 1947 and were the proud parents of Therbert Dewitt James, Jr. and Elmyra Wojcik. Because of their unwavering love, they also raised their two grandsons, Chris and Tommy James.
  
  She was always an ambassador for Christ. Throughout her life on Earth, she refused to ever put herself first, so for eternity in Heaven, she will receive all the righteous blessings that she so deserves. She was a charter and life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hamlet.
  
  With her zest for life, contagious wit and laughter, and mouth-watering cooking, she always left people wanting more.
  
  She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Therbert Dewitt James, Sr; brother, David East; and sisters, Thelma Brooks and Ann Croom.

He had very little education and could not read or write (he signed legal documents with an X). However, he had good math skills and apparently was an ambitious young man and a successful farmer. He bought a farm in Robeson County, NC when he was only 21 years old, and lived on that land until his death. The old home place is still standing, but has been renovated over the years.

  Betty Jo Seals Caid, a long-time resident of Fayetteville, NC, passed away at home on 21 September 2021 at the age of 90. She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1949. She was an accomplished civil servant who completed her service as an executive secretary at Headquarters, Fort Bragg when she retired on 3 December 1988. She was a loving mother who devoted her life toward raising her three children: Charlene, Vanessa and Brian.
  
  Betty Jo was beloved to all who knew her, especially her three children, thirteen grandchildren, and great grandson. She will be missed dearly by her many friends and extended family.
  
  A service honoring her life will be held at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Monday, September 27 at 2 PM.

  Linda Warwick Jolly, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at her home with her loving family by her side. Linda was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on August 25, 1941 and is the daughter of the late John Robinson Warwick and Emma Wytch Regan Warwick.
  
  Linda's stories and her sense of humor will be missed by her many friends and family. She loved hummingbirds and Willie Nelson music.
  
  She is survived by her loving daughter, Tamela Jolly.
  
  Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Charles Warwick; sister, Matilda Venable.
