  ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Patricia Brooks Watson, 79, of Rockingham, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
  
  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at the First Baptist Church of Rockingham, where she was a longtime member. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park
  
  Born April 2, 1937, in Hamlet, she was a daughter of the late Leland (Pat) and Thelma East Brooks and was preceded in death by a son, Tilden Lee Watson.
  
  Mrs. Watson was a homemaker and part owner of Watson's Gulf and Wrecker Service. She was also a member and past president of The Rockingham BPW Club.
  
  She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Willard Watson Jr. of Rockingham; three daughters, Michaelle Goforth (Bill) of Madison, Alabama, Dawn Roberts (Greg) of Holly Springs, and Patty Safrit (John) of Mebane; two sons, Dale LaRue Bailey (Terry) of Carrboro and Russell Hollis Watson, of Rockingham; one sister, Virginia B. Putnam of Shallotte; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
  
  The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.

  ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Willard Watson Jr., 78, of Rockingham, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017.
  
  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the First Baptist Church of Rockingham where he was a member. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
  
  Born July 4, 1938 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Willard and Lillie Sessoms Watson and husband of the late Patricia Brooks Watson. He was preceded in death by his son, Tilden Lee Watson, two sisters, Anna Cribb and Mildred Bennett, two brothers, Frank and James Watson.
  
  Mr. Watson was the owner of Watson's Gulf and Wrecker Service since 1969, worked for the Rockingham Fire Department from 1967 to 1975, and was an avid hunter.
  
  He is survived by three daughters, Michaelle Goforth (Bill) of Madison, Alabama, Dawn Roberts (Greg) of Holly Springs, and Patty Safrit (John) of Mebane; two sons, Dale LaRue Bailey (Terry) of Carrboro and Russell Hollis Watson (Amanda) of Rockingham; two sisters, May Harvey of Rockingham and Pomilee Barrow of Raeford; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
  
  The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.

  "Virginia Brooks Putnam (Gennie) of Durham, NC passed away August 16, 2022 at the age of 81.
  
  She was born to the late Leland and Thelma Brooks on March 20, 1941 in Hamlet, NC. Gennie graduated from Hamlet High School and later received her nursing degree from Hamlet Nursing School. She married the late Dr. Robert Polk (Bobby), also from Hamlet in 1962 and eventually settled in Laurinburg, NC, where they lived until 1990.
  
  In 2004, Gennie reconnected with and married former high school friend (late) Richard Putnam of Hamlet.
  
  Gennie is survived by her beloved three “boys”: Rob Polk (Sherry) of LaGrange, GA, Brooks Polk of Red Springs, NC, and Brian Polk (Wendy) of Carrboro, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Emily and Robert Polk, Saige, Knox and Cullen Polk, and Emery Polk.
  
  Gennie had a long career as a nurse in various capacities, and ultimately retired in 2003 from a career in nursing home inspections for the state of North Carolina. In addition to serving in the nursing field, Gennie gave much of her time to help establish the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, which opened in 1988.
  
  Gennie had many hobbies and interests including cooking, decorating, birds and gardening. She volunteered at the boys’ schools and scouts and belonged to many service and social organizations. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church Laurinburg. Gennie was a gracious and open hostess; always welcoming all (friends, family, and pets!) to her home unreservedly. She just laughed when her grand-dog stole the leg right off the Thanksgiving turkey. She was generous and fierce and very funny.
  
  Above all, Gennie loved her family; her parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, nieces and nephews. Her children and grandchildren meant more to her than anything, and she devoted her life to showing that love.
  
  A service to celebrate Gennie's life will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 1:00pm at Harrington Funeral Home.
