  Elizabeth "Betty" Koontz Sowers, 78, of Arnold Road, died Monday night, June 27, 2011, at Lexington Health Care.
  
  
  The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington by Dr. Lee S. Dukes III.
  
  Betty was born in Lexington on Oct. 28, 1932, to Charles Odell "Buck" Koontz and Edith Oakley Koontz. She was a graduate of Welcome High School and Catawba College and earned her master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked in the Davidson County school system as a teacher and media specialist for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was very interested in Davidson County history and genealogy; she was the co-editor of Homespun Magazine in Davidson County and wrote numerous articles on various historical topics. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Koontz.
  
  Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Max E. Sowers of the home; sons Marty Sowers and wife Kay Hoover Sowers of Charlotte and Gary Sowers and wife Kathy Pividal of Baton Rouge, La; grandchildren Kristine, Charlie and David Sowers, all of Charlotte; and brother and sister-in-law Carlyle and Lou Koontz of Hermitage, Tenn.

  Max Eugene Sowers, age 85, of Arnold Road, Lexington passed away Friday morning at Hinkle Hospice House.
  A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, November 28, 2014 at Beulah United Church of Christ Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Lee Dukes officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
  Max was born in Davidson County, January 26, 1929 to Paul and Zella Everhart Sowers. Max was a graduate of Welcome High School, a graduate of Catawba College with a BS in Commerce, and was retired from Leonard Craver Realty as Business Manager. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Koontz “Betty” Sowers in 2011 and his brother Graham Sowers.
  Surviving are his sons, Marty Sowers (Kay Hoover Sowers) of Charlotte; Gary Sowers (Kathy Sowers) of Fleetwood, NC; 3 grandchildren, Kristine Sowers of Washington, DC, and Charlie and David Sowers of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Lois Sowers of Lexington.
