  Henry Luther Leonard, a 100-year-old retired teacher and farmer of Happy Hill Read died Wednesday evening after declining health for a year.
  
  The funeral will be 11 A.M. Saturday at First United Methodist Church by Dr. Hubert Carter and Dr. Timothy Porter. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
  
  Mr. Leonard was born Feb. 24, 1887, in the Happy Hill area of Davidson County to Henry Lindsey and Cornelia Myers Leonard. He attended the old Happy Hill School and Reeds Academy, and graduated in 1909 from Yadkin College. He was a recipient of two Henry Walser medals for speaking. He taught at Mt. Carmel, Yarborough and Fowler Schools through 1912 before going into farming.
  
  He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and an active member until he was 97 years old. He served his church as a lay leader, steward, teacher, and superintendent of the Sunday School Department. He was an honorary member of the church's Administrative Board. He also was instrumental in forming St. Timothy and Wesley Heights United Methodist Churches.
  
  He was married to Robbie Lillian Shoaf Leonard, who died March 4, 1969.
  
  Surviving are a son, Japhia Leonia d of Happy Hill Road; five daughters, Mrs. J. B. Tarlton of Old Mountain Road, Mrs. Elzavan Hinson and Mabel Pickett, both of Happy Hill Road, Mrs. Woodrow Leonard of Conrad Sowers Road, and Mrs. Alvin Pope of Welcome; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Callie Sue Michael of Reeds Community.
