  • Biography*: Memorial services for Roger Dale Bright of Keller, Texas, were held Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Fort Worth, Texas. Brother Anthony J. Pistone, principal of Monsignor Nolan High School, led the special service.

    Mr. Bright died at his home in Keller on Feb. 9. He was 42.

    A former Minden, LA, resident, he graduated from Minden High School in 1961. He had lived in Texas for many years, and held both bachelor and masters degrees. He had previously taught physics and chemistry at Monsignor Nolan High in Fort Worth, but was working in petroleum engineering at the time of his death.

    Survivors include his wife, Louise "Louie" Johnson Bright, Keller; two sons, Roger Eric Bright and Russell Keith Bright, both of Keller; one granddaughter, Erica Nicole Bright; two sisters, Rhonda Bright Arledge, Mt. Juliet, Tenn; Rheba Bright Turner, Bastrop; two brothers, Rodney Allen Bright, Minden; Randall Bright, Carmel, Indiana.

    He is also survived by his very good friend from Minden High School days, Wayne Dudley.

    Memorials may be sent to Nolan High School, 4501 Bridge Street, Ft. Worth, Tex. 76103 for a scholarship fund.

  • Biography*: Rodney passed away at the age of 64.

    He was born to Pershing "Jack" Bright and Ruth Bowden Bright. He grew up in Minden, LA, and was a graduate of Minden High School in 1964 and Louisiana Tech University. He served seven years in the United States Air Force, including stations in Texas, Turkey, Montana and Japan. He also worked as a salesperson for NCR Corp. He was a very intelligent person.

    Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger, FAG #31000712.

    He is survived by his siblings, Randall Bright and wife, Kathy of Little Rock, Arkansas, Reba Turner and husband, Barry of Bastrop, LA, and Rhonda Arledge and husband, Donald, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

    He is also survived by three sons, Nathan and wife, Jessica of Marshalton, Delaware, Steven and wife, Melissa of Elkton, Maryland and Eli of Grayson; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

    Rodney will be remembered for his sense of humor and contagious laughter.

    Burial will be private.

  • Biography*: Leo Stratis Jr., 80, born in Pensacola, and a resident of Fairhope since infancy died Aug. 17, 2000 at a local hospital. His parents were Leo Stratis Sr. and Pearl Lowell Stratis. His mother's family, the Lowells, were among the first settlers of Baldwin County. Stratis worked for the Fairhope Post Office for 31 years. He was a member of the Melody Makers Band; owner and operator of Stratis Photography and a charter member of the Eastern Shore Civitan Club which he served as treasurer for more than 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Voncile Grissette Stratis of Fairhope; their children, Ron and Kitty Stratis of Daphne, Connie and Richard McRae of Spanish Fort, Tony and Julie Reinhart of Mobile, Georgia and Paul McShane of Fairhope, Harold and Veronica Reinhart of Dallas, Texas, Bonny and Joe Tucker of Pascagoula, Miss., Marti and Michael Browning of Loxley, Michael and Lucy Reinhart of Fairhope; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services were held Aug. 19 at Fairhope Avenue Baptist church with the Rev. James W. Hill officiating. A service in Brewton was held at Canaan Baptist Church with burial following at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Edward O. Emmons, 75, of Pensacola, FL, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at his home. He was born on September 6, 1935 in Escambia County, AL. to the late Hightower W. and Marquerite Grissett Emmons. Ed grew up in Brownsville and attended Allie Yniestra, Blount Junior High, Pensacola and Tate High Schools. He started his career in the construction industry at 17 with Dyson and Company. After being drafted into the Army in 1958, he returned to Dyson in 1960 until founding Ed Emmons Steel Erectors, Inc. in 1977. During a career that spanned over fifty years, he completed numerous projects throughout the Southeast. Some of his greatest accomplishments include Olive Baptist Church Sanctuary, N.B. Cook School of the Arts, Molino Park Elementary, Navy Federal Credit Union, National Museum of Naval Aviation and the National Flight Academy. His legacy will be continued by David Emmons and Russell Hollingsworth.
    Ed was a fifty year member of West Pensacola Masonic Lodge 296 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a Charter Member of Hadji Shrine, a Charter Member, Lifetime Member and Past Director of the Hadji Directors Staff. He served many years on Hadji's Building Committee and was instrumental in the construction of Hadji Shrine Center. He was an avid sportsman and also a Lifetime Member of the NRA.
    Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years Alyce Silcox Emmons, daughter Elissa Hall (Stephen), son David Emmons, daughter Suzanne Hollingsworth (Russell) and his grandchildren Stephanie and Jacob Hall, Jonathan and Lindsay Emmons and Caitlyn and Hannah Hollingsworth. He is also survived by one brother Larry J. Emmons, Sr. (Elsbeth).
    Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8th. from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, Cantonment. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9th., at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North and a grave side Masonic service and burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
    Pallbearers are: Randy Blake, Jay Cowick, Glen Etheridge, Ray Etheridge, Manfred Laner, and Alan Sparr.
    Honorary Pallbearers are: Jack Bell, Herman "Bubbles" Bloch, James Bradley, Paul Fox, Johnny Gibbs, Larry Hall, Henry Johnson, Harold Stewart, Harold Swilley, past and present members of Hadji Directors Staff and the members of SMILE.

    Mrs. Grissett was born on August 16, 1917, at Pineview, AL and, was a lifetime resident of Barnett Crossroads. She is preceded in death by her husband, William E. (Bill) Grissett; an infant son, Donald Gray Grissett and daughter-in-law, Mary Joyner Grissett.

    She is survived by four children, Mary E. (George) Morgan of Semmes, AL, Jerald E. (Jerry) Grissett and Nancy C. (MacArthur) Davis of Barnett Crossroads and William C.     Mr.. Grissett , a graduate of Escambia County High School, Jefferson Davis Community College and Troy University, enjoyed a successful business career. Whether it was work in insurance, hardware, sulfur, or lawn equipment, Mr. Grissett measured his success by how much he could help others. This desire also led to involvement in various Church and Community activities. Beyond the professional realm, however, the love for his family and friends ensured Mr. Grissett’s lasting success.

    Mr. Grissett is survived by his daughter, Amy Dean (Michael) of Atmore, Alabama; son Scott Grissett (Lindy) of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren Caitlan, Mary Joyner, Will and Lane; brother Jerry Grissett of Barnett Crossroads, Alabama; sisters Mary Emma Morgan (George) of Semmes, Alabama, and Nancy Davis (MacArthur) of Barnett Crossroads, Alabama.

    Pall bearers are David Brantley, Jimmy Crook, Jerry Hatfield, Larry Hatfield, Bob Jones and Lewis Redditt.

    Mary Elizabeth Joyner Grissett, lifelong resident of Atmore, Alabama, died Wednesday, September 21 in Pensacola, Florida.

    Mrs. Grissett , a graduate of Escambia County High School and the University of Alabama, was a devoted educator, community leader, and volunteer with a passion for education. After twenty-five years of teaching with the Escambia County School System, she retired and taught English and literature for two years at Escambia Academy. She was a founder of the Academic All-Star Program and named Atmore Citizen of the Year in 1991. Mrs. Grissett was an active member of Atmore First United Methodist Church, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, board member of Atmore Public Library, a founding member of the Escambia County Friends of Education and director of HIPPY Atmore.

    Mrs. Grissett is preceded in death by her father and mother, W.S. (Buster) & Sarah Joyner, and her father-in-law, William (Bill) E. Grissett.

    Mrs. Grissett is survived by her mother-in-law, Mary O. Grissett (Bill) of Brewton, Alabama; her husband, William, daughter, Amy Dean (Michael) of Atmore, Alabama; son Scott (Lindy) of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren Caitlan, Mary Joyner, Will and Lane; brother Bob Joyner (Rhonda) of Merritt Island, Florida; sister Sissy Birindelli (Joe) of Fairhope, Alabama; brother W.S. The body was buried on the 16th in the Yearty Cemetery, funeral services being conducted by Rev. Ed Floyd. The following served as pallbearers: Ernest Tripp, J. M.
