St. Pauls, June 25 – Funeral services took place form St. Pauls Baptist church Thursday 11 a.m. for Mrs. Flora Powers, widow of the late William Powers, whose death took place Tuesday about 8 p.m. at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Taylor, of the Tabernacle section, from the infirmities of old age, mention of which was made in Thursdays Robesonian.
Officiating ministers at the services were Rev. Paul Britt of Lumberton, assisted by Revs. C. R. Hester and J. A. Dailey of St. Pauls. Interment was made in the Oak Ridge Cemetery on the western edge of town in the presence of a large number of friends and loved ones. Deceased, who was 75 years old, was a former resident of St. Pauls where she held membership with the local Baptist church and where her husband was a deacon. She was a good woman and beloved by many friend. Among the children surviving are Mr. Graham Powers of St. Pauls and Mrs. Charlie Jones Sr. near St. Pauls. - Birth*: Flora was born on 12 Sep 1849 at NC.

The funeral of Mrs. Cornelia Powers Taylor, wife of Edward T. Taylor, who died at Robeson County Memorial hospital, Sunday, June 23, were held Tuesday. June 25, at three o'clock from the Stephens Funeral Chapel. Rites were conducted by her pastor, Dr. D. Swan Haworth, assisted by Rev. S. N. Dorton. Burial was in Meadowbrook Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. S. C. Martin, St. Pauls, route 1; three sons, W. J. Taylor, Norfolk, Va., Carl and C.R. Taylor of Lumberton; two sisters, Mrs. R. R. Craig, Saranac, N. Y., and Mrs. Worth Hatcher, Richmond, Va; nine grandchildren; seven great-grand-children.
Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of the late Willie J. Powers and Flora Graham Powers. She was born in the Barker-Ten Mile Community June 22, 1884. She had been a member of the First Baptist church, Lumberton for about 30 years and was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday school class.
Pallbearers were R.U. Allen, Lloyd Freeman, Charlie Malone, Norman Martin, Russell Taylor,
and R. C. Adcox. Mrs. D. C. Roberts and Mrs. Jessie H. Britt were in charge of flowers, assisted by Mmes. R.U. Allen, Alex Kinlaw, Llovd Freeman, Charlie Malone, Shelton Malone, Edwin Taylor, 0liver Prevatte, Laurence Patterson, and Miss Emma Seals.
A solo was sung by Mrs. Robert Burns, with Miss Martha Steppe at the piano. - Birth*: Flora was born on 22 Jun 1885 at Howellsville, Robeson County, NC. Jun., 1884?.

- Biography*: WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Mr. James Howard Brown, 81, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born in Hazard, Ky., to Patricia Grosso.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who received the Purple Heart.
He was a retired truck driver from McLean Trucking Co. with 35 years of service.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Mabel Powers Brown; his second wife, Gladys Smith Brown; and his oldest daughter, Jackie Braley.
Surviving are five children, Nikki Brock, Kathy Nocks, Pam Myers, James Brown II and Bobbi Brown; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A 4 p.m. graveside service will be held today, July 23, at First Baptist Church Cemetery. VFW District 11 Honor Guard will provide military rites.
The family will receive friends at the home of Pam and Gary Myers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016.

She was born in Robeson County to James Howard Brown and the late Mabel Powers Brown.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and a volunteer at East Stokes Outreach Ministry. She retired with 30 years service from the U.S. Postal Service as postmaster and was a member of the Retired Postmasters Association. She was also a member of the Walnut Cove Lions Club.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Bob Braley, and her daughter, Rinda Grow.
Surviving are a son, Mark Grow, and wife Carla of Osgood, Ind; three grandchildren, Jesse, Luke and Maggie Grow; her father; and five siblings.
A private service will be held, with the Rev. Bill Fryar officiating.
