• Biography*: Melba Ruth Dunn, 87, died peacefully on May 22, 2013 at her home in Florala, Alabama, surrounded by immediate family.
  
  Melba was born on November 15, 1925, in Bonifay, Florida, daughter of the late Rebecca "Ma" Mathis. She graduated from Holmes County High School in 1944. Melba met her lifelong love, the late George Dunn in 1946 and they had a loving marriage from 1947 until George's death in 1998. They met and lived briefly in Florala, then in Miami, Jacksonville and Pensacola, finally returning and settling in Florala in 1966.
  
  Melba was a devoted mother to their two daughters and worked as a dietician for 22 years at Florala High School where she enjoyed serving and watching Florala's teens grow up. Melba and George were members of First Baptist Church for many years.
  
  Melba had a special love for babies and children who continued to bring her joy even into her final days. She was deeply devoted to her family for whom she always had a helping hand and welcoming home.
  
  Melba leaves her loving memories with her daughters, Glenda Davis and Kathy Korin; her sisters, Sue Mathis and Joy Taylor; grandchildren, Michael Goolsby and Nicole Maddox; great-grandchild Jordan Goolsby; and a large extended family.
  
  Visitation: Thursday evening, May 23 from 6 to 8 P.M.
  
  Funeral: Friday, May 24 at 2 P.M., both at Evans Funeral Home, Florala.

  She is survived by one sister, Debra Savage Hillman (William) of Mobile, one nephew Michael A Savage of Loxley, AL, Two nieces, Ashley A Hillman of Mobile and Leah Hillman McClain of Chattanooga, TN, as well as several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Mrs. Charlotte Shy, age 89, passed away July 26, 2009 in Geneva, Alabama. She was born December 9, 1919 in Covington County, Alabama to M.D. and Ella Savage Harrell.
  Christine is preceded in death by her husband James Shy, her parents, her brother-in-laws Fred H. Commander and Henry Heckertt
  
  Christine is survived by her sisters, Martha Commander of Darlington, Florida and Annelle Heckertt of Tulsa, Oklahoma, nephews; Carl H.Commander and wife Carolyn, their children William Commander, Megan and Jesse Bivens; John Commander, his daughter Amanda and husband Wesley Floyd, their children Alley, Julian and Olivia; Danny Commander, his wife Susan, son Jason, wife Kristin and their children Kayleigh, Garrett and David Heckertt.
  
  Christine attended school in Leonia and graduated from Walton High School in 1937. She attended college at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas from 1939-1942. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Eglin Airfield in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida from 1942-1944.
  
  She served her country with the American Red Cross in Japan from 1945-1947 and again as a director with the Army Special Services in Japan from 1950-1952. After touring the world she returned home where she reconnected with the love of her life, James H. Shy of the New Hope Community, they married in 1956. She and James lived in several states as required by his federal fruit and vegetable inspector job, and eventually settled in Homestead, Florida. Chris was employed by the Homestead school board as a library assistant and remained there until she retired. She was Baptist by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Homestead, Florida. Christine will be remembered by family and friends for her witty sense of humor, her amazing wartime experiences, a phenomenal pictorial history of her life and times and her strong faith in God. She was truly a beautiful person and will be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.
  
  A time of visitation will be held from 9:00~10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Darlington Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Darlington Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Smith officiating.

He loved to eat Oysters and he also enjoyed fishing, cooking, canning and working. He also enjoyed coming home to the gulf coast to visit family and friends.
