William L. Glatfelter, trustee of Gettysburg college, son of the late P.H. Glatfelter for whom Glatfelter hall was named, and donor of a $100,000 gift to Gettysburg college last year, for remodeling of Glatfelter hall, the college administration building, died in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Sunday night from a heart condition. He was president of the P.H. Glatfelter company, Spring Grove, paper manufacturers, and also of the Hanover Wire Cloth company.
A trustee of the college for many years, Mr. Glatfelter was always interested in the college's progress having been a member of the class of 1886 after attending the York County academy, although he did not graduate from college here. He entered business with his father, then a trustee of the college, immediately upon completing his education.
Mr. Glatfelter had been in ill health for sometime, his condition recently growing worse. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Glatfelter, a son, left Spring Grove, Friday, to spend Easter with his parents.
OTHER INTERESTS

In addition to his interest in the Spring Grove paper manufacturing concerns, the Hanover concerns and banking business, Mr. Glatfelter for years was actively identified with one of the leading manufacturing concerns of York, the York manufacturing company, having been a president and treasurer of that concern. After that company became the nucleus for merging of a number of other concerns of like character throughout the county into the York Ice Machinery corporation, Mr. Glatfelter became a director of the latter concern.
Mr. Glatfelter was a prominent layman of the United Lutheran church. He was superintendent of St. Paul's Lutheran Sunday School at Spring Grove for the past forty-seven years and also served as a deacon of the church.
BORN IN 1865
William L. Glatfelter was a son of the late P.H. Glatfelter and was born in Spring Grove, April 27 1865. Mr. Glatfelter entered the office of the Spring Grove paper mills, of which his father was the founder, and in which the son, soon after leaving school, became a partner.
In 1887 Mr. Glatfelter became associated with the York Manufacturing company, which subsequently became the largest manufacturing plant in York, and grew in size until its amalgamation with other concerns resulted in formation of the York Ice Machinery company.
INTERESTS WIDESPREAD
Mr. Glatfelter became associated with this concern, which was destined to become such an important factor in the industrial life of York, at the same time his father became interested in the enterprise, the father having been assignee of the old concern bearing the company name, which he purchased.
His interests were far flung. he was unostentatious in manner and was keenly interested in many things of meritorious character. He was identified for years with the Loysville Orphan's home and served as a trustee of that orphanage. He was a Republican in politics and served the community of Spring Grove as president of the school board and as chief burgess. he was president of the Friendship Fire company of Spring Grove since its organization.
OWNED OLD FORGE FARMS
Mr. Glatfelter also was the owner of the Old Forge Dairy farms, on which he bred and raised many prize winning Jersey and Ayrshire cattle. The animals from the Old Forge farms are widely known throughout the eastern part of the United States, having participated in competition and won high awards at many fairs and exhibitions of prize winning cattle in the eats. Milk from the farms, which was delivered in Spring Grove, was also known to rank among the highest in point of purity of any dairy farm in this section of the country.
WIDOW SURVIVES
Mr. Glatfelter leaves his widow, who before marriage was Miss Kathryn Rebecca Hollinger, near Abbottstown; their only son, Philip H. Glatfelter and three sisters, Mrs. Charles E. Moul, of Hanover, and Miss Romaine L. and (Nellie I) Mellie Glatfelter, of Spring Grove.
Dr. Henry W. A. Hanson, president of Gettysburg college will officiate at funeral services to be held at the late residence Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by special request of the family. Services will be held in the Lutheran church at Spring Grove at 3 o'clock the same afternoon, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Dr. A.O. Mullen.

William Glatfelter Rites Attended by College and Church Leaders
Clergymen and laymen prominent in the United Lutheran church in America attended the funeral of William L. Glatfelter, Spring Grove, as honorary pallbearers this afternoon. Officials of Gettysburg college, members of the family and the student body also attended the force.
Mr. Glatfelter was active in the Lutheran church throughout his life and was one of the strongest supporters if Gettysburg college, havin recently given $100,000 for repairs to the Glatfelter hall, administration building named after the late Philip Glatfelter, also a former trustee, and the deceased's father.
The honorary pallbearers were: The Rev. J.B. Markwald, D.D. Springfield, Ohio, president of the board of American Missions of the United Lutheran church in America; the Rev. George M. Diffenderfer, D.D. Carlisle, vice president of the board of trustees Tressler Orphan's home, Loysville. Mr Glatfelter was the vice president of this board at the time of his death and was the oldest trustee in point of service on the board; the Rev. Franklin F. Fry, D.D., New York city executive secretary of Board of American missions; the Rev. Henry Anstadt, D.D. Chambersburg president of Synod of West Pennsylvania; J.L. Clark, Ashland, Ohio chairman laymen's committee for stewardship of the United Lutheran church of America; Arthur P. Black, Washington D.C. executive secretary laymen's committee for stewardship.
Private services were held at the Glatfelter residence, "West Hill", Spring Grove, with public services at the St. Paul's Lutheran church at 3 o'clock
