Keane Denson Pugh, Sr. was carried to Heaven in the arms of his Savior on Saturday, September 3, 2011. A man of many talents and few words, he managed to love, share, and teach, by his actions alone.
  
  He was born January 15, 1920 in Avon, Virginia, a son of Robert and Emma Hawthorne Pugh.
  
  He was a member of Christchurch of Waynesboro, of the International Fellowship of Christian Businessmen; and was active in Prison Fellowship Ministry.
  
  During WW II he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific and Asiatic Theaters. In 1980 he retired from DuPont with 42 years of service.
  
  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, K. Denson Pugh, Jr; a step-son, Ron Cash; a step-daughter, Eva Jo Cash; a grandson, Stacey Pugh; 4 sisters, Paige VanBuren, Lottie Colley, Anita Allen, and Nancy LaMont; and 3 brothers, Robert, Wade and Frederick Pugh.
  
  Surviving are his wife, Ann Metcalf Pugh of Stuarts Draft; 2 daughters and their spouses, Donna and Walter Wheeler and Lynn and Lewis Moon, all of Waynesboro; a son and his wife, Robert and Pat Pugh of Scottsville; a step-son and his wife, Michael and Mary Sue Cash of Yorktown; the mother of his children, Morene Pugh; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
  
  A service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at McDow Funeral Home by Rev. Alton Wilson. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, VA. with honors conducted by the American Legion Post 340.
  
  The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at McDow Funeral Home.

• Biography*: Morene Ella Reach Pugh of Waynesboro, born on June 10, 1924, in Dunbar, Virginia, departed this world for one greater on Friday, September 23, 2011, at the age of 87.
  
  She was lovingly raised by the late Lanis Burke Reach Alexa and Robert Joseph Alexa, and resided the majority of her life in the counties of Nelson and Augusta.
  
  "Nanny", as she was affectionately known by family, as well as close friends and extended family, was preceded in her passing by the father of her children, Keane Denson Pugh Sr; her eldest son, Keane Denson Pugh Jr; her sister, Mary R. Cooke; her son-in-law, Blaine Douglas Parr; and a grandson, Stacy Lee Pugh.
  
  She leaves to cherish many memories her sister, Eleanor R. Atkins; her three remaining children and their spouses, Robert "Bobby" Carroll Pugh and his wife, Pat, Donna Rueth Pugh Wheeler and her husband, Walter Earley Wheeler Jr., and Anita "Lynn" Pugh Parr Moon and her husband, James Lewis Moon Jr.
  
  Her humor, loving nature and practical advice will be missed by her grandchildren, "Bobby's" children, Donna Lynn Pugh Reynolds and Joseph Robert Pugh; Donna's children, Kimberly Renee Wheeler McClamroch and her husband, Scott; Karen Denay Wheeler Rowlingson and her husband, John; Walter Kent Wheeler; and, Kevin Earley Wheeler; and Lynn's children, John Franklin Parr and his wife, Sarah, and Amy Deann Moon. "Nanny's" treats and 'bushel and a peck' hugs and kisses will not be forgotten by her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Bryce, Mick, Isaac, Tyler, Tanner, Natalie, Chelsea, Joey, Stephanie, Heather, Tiffany and Brieanna; and great-great-grandchild "R.J.".
  
  Morene's family would like to thank the friends, extended family, doctors, nurses and caregivers, too numerous to mention, for their talents, care and support throughout her life, and especially during her last days with us. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would graciously be accepted by the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, Virginia, 22939. A private family service was held on Monday, September 26, 2011, at which she was laid to eternal rest next to her sister at Augusta Memorial Park.

Margaret Ann Metcalf 'Ann'

• Biography*: Margaret Ann Metcalf Pugh, 83, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville. She was born on September 26, 1929, in Greenfield, Virginia, and lived her younger years in Stuarts Draft. She was one of nine children and was the last surviving child of Herbert Frances and Eva Mertal Metcalf of Stuarts Draft and Sherando area. She married young at the age of 16, to H. J. Cash and spent 33 years of her life in Newport News, where her husband worked at the shipyard. She had three children with this man. The late Ronald C. Cash, who served his country during Vietnam; Michael Cash and wife, Mary Sue, from Yorktown, Virginia and her last child, Eva Jo Cash, who became sick and had brain damage when she was one year old. Our mother took great care of this child at home, even when doctors recommended she be put in a handicapped facility to be taken care of by others for the rest of her life. Ann refused to do this to Eva Jo. Mr. Cash had his ways and was a hard man to get along with, until they finally divorced after 33 years of marriage. She moved back to Stuarts Draft, where she met Keane Pugh, a good hearted man she met in church. They married in 1981. They believed in the Lord strongly and spent many hours in prison ministry to try to help prisoners straighten out their lives. They gave as much they could monetarily to arrange transportation for Jewish people living in Russia, to return to Israel. They also endeavored to support the program, "Operation Smile." They grew large gardens to give and help people in need. The people in the community knew them as a very kind hearted and loving couple. They made a good pair together and the 30 years that they were wed, made up for all of the bad times each one of them remembered in the past and during the Great Depression. Ann was accepted lovingly into Keane's family, as if she had always been there. Keane had four children of his own, Denson Pugh who passed away; Donna and her husband, Walter Wheeler, who have done so much to love and care for Ann when Keane passed away, Lynn and her husband, Lewis Moon. Lynn is a nurse and has always been there to look out for Ann and Keane's health, Robert Pugh and his wife, Pat, who helped maintain their home when they no longer could. Ann loved each of Keane's children as if they were her own, and they loved her. Ann and Keane had many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who they loved very much and enjoyed visiting. They had many friends who worked with them in the teaching of the Bible, and they enjoyed many good times with these friends. She was a very good woman and will truly be missed by all. The world needs more good people like her. A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at McDow Funeral Home of Waynesboro, with Mr. Joe Arbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the funeral home.
