John Nicholas Michael or Michel 'Nicholas

• Biography*: He served in the Revolutionary War as guards in Salisbury, NC. Aug. - Oct., 1778 "Rowan Militia".
  
  Note, Source: Hubert Michael, III - When hwy 52 was being put in through Lexington, NC, l believe in the early 80s' the road crew ran into a grave. A lady who. is a member of the genealogy society and volunteers at the Lexington City Library heard of the find and petitioned the Court to stop the construction untill the grave could be moved. The site was the grave of Nicholas Michael. His tombstone was moved to Pilgrim UCC and placed beside his wife and his remains were buried across the road at Forest Hill Cemetery. The story is that Nicholas had fought in Court with a Hugh Cunningham for 30 years over who owned the property and before he died he made the statement that when he died he was to be buried on his property so as to be able to watch over it as he had had so much trouble over ownership. His request was to be buried on the property line. No one has been able to learn where the 932 acres were mentioned in the court battle over the property. I personally believe it must have been in this area as there is a 3 mile long Michael Road near and a several mile long Michael Branch which runs from the south point of Swearing Creek all the way near Lexington BBQ. A Mrs. Koontz showed the grave site to the genealogy lady and Mrs. Koontz took her to the old home place and stated that her family purchased the property in the 1930s and there was once a giant Sycamore tree which marked the property line. Mrs. Koontz was told that the land bordered the Sink property and that her Dad cut the tree down many years earlier.
