Biography*: Reference - William and Mary Quarterly, Vol.#18, Number 4, Apr., 1910. He was executed for his enmity to Mary, Queen of Scots, when his son, William was three years old, and his son, Patrick, three weeks old. Later when King James ascended the throne in 1603, he ordered both arrested at Cambridge, where they were in school. William escaped, first, it is thought to France, and later to VA to which place he fled when the edict of Nantes was revoked changing his name from Ruthven to Ruffin.
