  Mrs. Thelma Sowers Smith, 88, of Forest Heights Assisted Living passed away Dec. 26, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 7, 1918, in Forsyth County to John David and Frances Head Sowers. Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, the Adult Sunday school class, and the DMA Club and was active as long as her health permitted. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert Glenn Smith, of Forest Heights Assisted Living; three sisters, Dorothy S. Ketner of Winston-Salem, Bernice Mabe of Kernersville, and Peggy Jeffords and husband, Cecil, of Winston-Salem. At Thelma's request, there will be no visitation. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 28, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Ed Sears and the Rev. Jim Bush officiating. The family gives special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and Thelma's church family and her pastors for the loving care and support they gave her during her illness.   WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Bernice Sowers Mabe of Winston Salem went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. She was born to the late John and Frances Sowers on May 11, 1925. She will be sincerely missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Mabe worked at the Methodist Children's Home and in home health care before her retirement. She was also member of Hiatt United Methodist Church of Kernersville. Surviving Mrs. Mabe are two daughters Ms. Debbie Mabe Hedgecock of Pasadena, CA. and Mrs. Dawn Mabe Barrow of Raleigh. Also surviving are two sisters Mrs. Dorothy Ketner and Mrs. Peggy Jeffords of Winston Salem, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2009 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m.. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery.
