Herman Wayne Davis 'Wayne'

• Biography*: PLEASANT GARDEN, NC - Herman Wayne Davis, 86, passed away on March 28, 2013 at Beacon Place, Greensboro, NC.
  
  Born May 16, 1926 in the Churchland community of Davidson County, Wayne was the youngest of 15 children born to William Lester and Laura Lenora Barnes Davis.
  
  Except for his sister Edna, all of his family predeceased him.
  
  Wayne enlisted in Naval flight school and was assigned to the Memphis Naval Air Station near the end of WWII.
  
  The funds he received from the GI Bill enabled him to attend NC State College, where he earned a degree in General Engineering in 1949. He remained an avid Wolfpack fan his whole life.
  
  Following employment at Heritage Furniture Company, Wayne partnered with Ed Thrower early in the 1950s to form a new furniture company, Founders, in Pleasant Garden. The company grew to employ over 300 in the community before eventually selling to Thomasville Chair.
  
  Wayne's many contributions to the Pleasant Garden community included helping to locate a Bank of America branch to serve the community and acting as a founding Trustee of Pleasant Garden Volunteer Fire Department. He served in many leadership capacities at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, from establishing Day Care facilities to spearheading the annual Brunswick Stew.
  
  He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Blackwelder Davis; their four children, Christopher Wayne Davis, Anna Elaine Davis Gleaves, Kimberly Lea Davis Winslow and William Bradley Davis; fifteen grandchildren, Michael and Preston, Kristy, Elizabeth, Ben and Bradley, Beau, Rachael, William and Alexander, Kyle, Cori and Derrick, Jane and Taylor; great-grandchildren Casen, Madyln, Marissa and Ashley.
  
  A Celebration of the life of H. Wayne Davis was held at 11 am Monday, April 1, 2013 at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church.
