- Biography*: David was born the son of the late Walter Vie Hursey and Lina Belle Robinson Hursey. He raised at Wrightsville Beach where he was a lifeguard at the Lumina in the 1950's and 60's. He loved the miracles of nature and cherished hunting and fishing with his father, friends and his son in North Carolina and in Texas. His fondest memories were of camping and fishing with his best friends on Masonboro Island. He was a member of BSA Troop 224 and achieved "Eagle Scout" in 1954. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1958 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in marine biology in 1967 from the University of NC at Wilmington. He served in the US Army from 1963-1965. David was also a member of the Shriners and the St. John's Masonic Lodge #1 in Wilmington. He will be remembered as a Southern gentleman, a sports man, a great father and a beloved friend to many. He was most grateful for the wonderful friendships in his life with Ed and Susie Walsh; Robin and Ellen Pridgen; David and Sybil Brookshire; Otis Struthers; Dian Workman and Annie Mae and EJ Skipper. His survivors also include his son, David Alan Hursey, Jr., recently retired from the Wilmington Police Department after sixteen years of service. His daughter Donna Hursey Rushing and his grandson, Luke Rushing. David's aunt and uncle Cecil and Silvey Robinson. His cousin and close friend, Johnny Hursey. David passed away at the Veteran's Hospital after a courageous battle with advanced coronary disease.
