HIGH POINT - Mrs. Marie Bain Clapp, 91, died at High Point Regional Hospital July 13, 2005, following a brief illness.
She was born in Davidson County, June 20, 1914, to Gertrude Craver Simerson Bain and Murray Purnell Bain. After her high school graduation, her family moved to High Point, where she met and married Raymond L. Clapp. During her working years she was employed by the City of High Point and the High Point Division of Domestic Relations Court. She loved gardening, flowers, vegetables and fruit, and she enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with her friends and family. One of her greatest pleasures was mowing her yard and orchard on the riding lawn mower, which she continued to do right up until her 91st birthday in June.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Elsie S. Brown and Audrey B. Tyndall, and a brother, Samuel Simerson.
Although she had no children, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and she enriched their lives and loved them.
She is survived by her sister, Mazie B. Bullard and her brother, Carson Bain, both of Greensboro.
Funeral will be from the graveside at 11 a.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn L. Myers and the Rev. Karen Gobel, officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
