- Biography*: He arrived in Philadelphia, PA in 1748.
John served as Tax Assessor of Mecklenbug, NC from 1778. He lived in District 18. He is first found in the records of Anson County, NC. On 25 Mar., 1752 William Alexander bought 640 acres in Anson County, NC joining John Patterson and Samuel Blythe.
On 9 May, 1753 John Patterson bought 250 acres in Bladen County, NC at the head of a branch of Rockfish Creek being the place where William Gilmore did live.
On 28 Jan., and 29 Jan., 1754, William Alexander, merchant, sold 496 acres of land on the North side of Cuttaba, NC, south side of 12-mile Creek to John Patterson of Rowan County, NC.
On 14 and 15 Feb., 1754, John Patterson and wife Elizabeth, his wife of Rowan County, NC, sold 496 acres (as described above) to William Nutt, Jr. of Anson County, NC.
On 21 Dec., 1761 John Patterson bought 628 acres in Rowan County, NC on the Waters of Sills Creek joining James Erwin, Johsua Nichols, and Samuel Blythe. (This John Patterson may be the father of Robert who married Rhoda Witt and moved to TN.)
On 6 and 7 Oct., 1763 John Burnet and wife Mary of Rowan County, NC sold 250 acres of land in Mecklenburg, NC on Coldwater Creek adjacent to Earl Granville's line to John Patterson. The witnesses were John Haggin, Martin Phifer, and John Patton.
On 6 Jul., 1772, Henry Fashparmon and wife Christiana of Mecklenberg, NC sold 100 acres on Coldwater Creek to John Patterson.
On 13 Apr., 1774 Thomas Polk, Abraham Alexander, and Jeremiah McCafferty of Mecklenberg, NC sold to John Patterson and Will Patterson, Jr. lots 197 and 194 on the North side of Tyron Street in Charlotte, NC.
John's Will is filed in Will Book 17, Mecklenburg County, NC, now stored in Raleigh, NC. His Will is witnessed by Hugh Patterson who served in the Revolutionary War.
