From Joe Balco - I bought my first boat in 1946, learned to ski on two skies, and in 1949 won a 36-mile water skiing marathon in Rio Vista, CA. It was only the beginning. Over the next thirty-eight years, I earned first-place finishes in water ski jumping, tricks, slalom, mixed doubles, pyramid competitions, and ski and boat racing. I loved the competition, and my endurance was unmatched.

On October 10, 1954, at 32 years-of-age, Hubert Miller and I set a world record water skiing for nine hours and forty minutes. We skied 276 miles.

  Yesterday, February 21, 2003 Hubert Miller died. His son, Bud (Denton) called us today to let us know that the funeral service is to be held Wed.,
  February 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Frisby and Warren Funeral Parlor [Frisbie Warren & Carroll Mortuary], 809 North California St., Stockton, CA. He was 96 years old and had been in
  reasonable health, good enough to travel from Lodi where he was living in an assisted living home to his son's home for a visit. But he died there while
  visiting, so they are not sure just yet what the cause of death was. He is survived by his son, Bud (Denton) 545 Pearl St., Monterey, CA 93940 and
  daughter Judith Mullins, 4676 Dahlia Dr., Stockton, CA 95212. I thought you would like this information for the Miller family history.

  Hubert D. Miller

  Hubert D. Miller, 96, of Stockton
  died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in a Hospital in Monterey. Miller was born Aug.
  7, 1906, in North Carolina and lived in Stockton for 70 years. He was owner
  and operator of Miller Photography for 40 years. Miller was a member of Kiwanis
  and First Baptist Church. He was co-founder of Stockton Water Ski Club and was
  a Pacific Coast water ski champion.
  Survivors: children, Judy Mullins
  and Mary Montenez, both of Stockton, and Bud Miller of Monterey; brother, Bob
  Miller of Stockton; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
